            Speech Writing
• To look at how to structure a good speech.
• To discover and apply criteria of good
Learning
speech writing.
Objectives • To become a better speech writer through
informed practice of speech writing.
Answer- Using a speech.
How to make a plan for speech writing?
• Begin with writing down the three bullet points from the question.
• Find points from text one and text two for each of the three bullet points.
• Under each bullet point, write down the points that you have gathered
from text one and text two.
• Remember that the points picked should not be more than four words.

When you are done with the plan, you can start writing your speech.
Introduction

there are four basic functions 


• Get the attention of the
audience.
• State your main idea or
proposition.
• Establish your credibility.
• Present a preview of your three
bullet points.
Getting the attention of the
audience

• Refer to the audience of the


occasion.
• State a startling fact or opinion.
• Ask a rhetorical question.
• Use an anecdote. It should not be
more than three sentences.
Stating the main idea
This must be short and direct.
Examples are:

• "Today, I would like to talk about...".


• "I plan to tell you why... is the best choice we
could make".
• I would like to tell you about the history of...".
Establish your credibility

• Explain why you chose this topic.


• Explain why you are an authority
on this topic.
• Mention if you have done any
research or have any
experience with the topic.
Examples are:

Use a personal anecdote-  "A


long time ago, I was …".

From experience-  "I have


worked this job for...". 

Research- I have done


substantial research on …. and I
have found out about …".
• Present the (given) three bullet
Present a preview of your points in paragraphs.

The body is the main part of the


speech as it contains ideas and facts 
that you want to convey.

The best way to have an effective body


is to have three main points in your
rough plan.
For example, a speech about the benefits of eating fruits and
vegetables, the main points could be:

1. It provides nutrients that our body needs.


2. It protects against aging.
3. It reduces risk of cancer.
Transitions:
• Words or sentences that help
your audience understand
the flow of your speech.
• Used to shift the speech from one
Use point to another.
• Makes it easy for your audience to
transition follow along.

This is your final opportunity to convey your
message and main points in a manner that will
leave an impression on your audience. The
optional way to do that is by summarizing the
main points.
Some ways to conclude:
