Presentation: Pedagogical Skills Maam Farkhanda Jabeen

The document discusses the inquiry method of pedagogy. It describes inquiry method as a student-centered approach focused on asking questions to stimulate critical thinking. The key features outlined include the teacher acting as a facilitator, an emphasis on student-centered learning through experience rather than direct instruction, and types of inquiry being inductive, deductive, and the scientific method. The document then elaborates on each type of inquiry and their processes.

INQUIRY METHOD

 Inquiry method stimulates questions and issues

in a mind.
 Inquiry method is a student-centered method of
education focused on asking question.
 Students are encouraged to ask questions which
do not necessarily have easy answers, teacher
are encouraged to avoid giving answers when
this is possible, and in any case to avoid giving
direct answers in favor of asking more questions.
INQUIRY METHOD IN EDUCATION

 Inquiry based learning is a method that

focuses on students investigation and hand-
on learning.

FEATURES OF INQUIRY METHOD

 It is an Umbrella Team encompassing a range

of teaching approaches.
 A teacher is a Facilitator, Provider or Guider.
 It gives an area of students centered learning.
 It gives a smooth path to knowledge by
experiencing rather than simply presenting
something.
TYPES OF INQUIRY METHOD

 Inductive Method
 Deductive Method
 Scientific Method
INDUCTIVE METHOD

 Inductive method in teaching is to engage

students for acquiring knowledge
 Its generate ideas from specific to general.
TYPES OF INDUCTIVE METHOD

 Inquiry Based Learning

 Discovery Learning
 Problem Based Learning
 Project Based Learning
 Case Based Learning
 Just-In-Time Teaching (JITT)
DEDUCTIVE METHOD OF INQUIRY

 Deductive method in teaching is to give

theories or to present something as it is.
 Its generate ideas from general to specific.
DEDUCTIVE REASONING

 Deductive reasoning is any from of reasoning

that moves from the general to the particular.
For Example:
All dogs are mammals Fido is a dog.
Therefore Fido is a mammal.
As you can see the argument moves from a
general claim about all dogs to a particular
conclusion about Fido

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN INDUCTIVE AND
DEDUCTIVE METHOD
INDUCTIVE METHOD DEDUCTIVE METHOD
 Slow process  Fast process
 Discovery method  Verification method
 Full of activity  Less activity opportunities
 Gives new knowledge  Does not give new
knowledge
SCIENTIFIC METHOD

“It is an approach to seeking knowledge”

OR
“Systematic process for investigating”
OR
“Acquiring new knowledge containing
principles of correcting old knowledge”
STEPS FOR SCIENTIFIC METHOD

It consist of the following standardized steps

1. Observation
2. Hypothesis
3. Experiment
4. Analyze
5. Conclusion / Result
Observation:
To see something by having purpose in mind or un
intentionally.
OR
It is made to collect relevant information.

Hypothesis:
Intelligence guess in the form of statement.

Experiment:
A process to test the hypothesis.
Analysis:
To look within every aspect so that to accept or
reject your hypothesis.
Conclusion/ Result:
Publish or show your findings after conclusion with
valid statement, which become theory later.
MODERNIZE STEPS

So the seven steps of the scientific method is:

1. Observe “see” a problem.
2. Ask a question.
3. Gather “collect” information.
4. Make a guess “Hypothesis”.
5. Make an experiment.
6. Record your result.
7. Draw your conclusion.
PROBLEM SOLVING APPROACH

It is an approach which deals with the details to

solve any problem.
STEPS OF PROBLEM SOLVING APPROACH

 Identify the problem. This is critical: you must

try to solve the right problem.
 Analyze the problem.
 Identify decision criteria.
 Develop multiple solutions.
 Choose the optimal solution.

BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS

 Consistent problem solving approach.

 Reduces errors in algebra.
 Reinforces unit conversion.
 Simplifies computation.
 Improves understanding of math
applications.
 Multiple ways to solve the same problem.
