Slack is a channel-based messaging platform. With Slack, people can work together more effectively, connect

all their software tools and services and find the information that they need to do their best work – all within

a secure, enterprise-grade environment.

Slack is better version of email in different format.

Slack gives you access to real-time conversations with any teammate or team. Unlike email, where every new
message is given equal weight, it’s easy to grab a specific person’s attention with a notification when you need a quick
response
• Stay in the loop, not out
Email isolates information – you can only see the conversations you’ve been included in. Everyone in a channel sees
the same messages so your team know who’s responsible for what and how to move work forward.

Email has limited integration with other apps – you need to constantly switch tabs, windows and your focus for even
the smallest of tasks. Slack connects to all of your work tools so you can find information or perform quick actions

Every Slack team has its own workspace. A Slack workspace is a space that brings together all the channels and chats

Slack is available on different platforms as a native app. It can also be used as a website, which is quite
convenient. However, the app comes with more settings and it is faster to switch between different
workspaces in the app.

How do you sign up and get started?

If you want to be the administrator of your own Slack team, follow these steps:

• Go to Slack’s website and enter your email address to sign up


• Choose a name for your Slack team (ex Workshop Talk)
• Edit the URL to your Slack team (ex https://workshoptalk.slack.com)
• Choose a username for yourself
• Enter emails of associates you’d like to invite to join your Slack team
• Your Slack team chat will then load in a browser window
• Go through the brief tutorial that appears next to learn the basics
To join a Slack workspace, you need an email invitation or you can create an account on the workspace by
yourself. There are several ways to do this:

1. Receive and accept an email invitation from a member of the workspace and sign up by clicking the link
contained in the email invitation.

2. Join a workspace using your work email address. Slack is often tied to a company domain, which means
that any new person in an organization can join on their own.

How much does Slack cost?

Slack is free - mostly. You'll only be able to browse and search your team's 10,000 most recent
messages, and you'll be limited to 5GB of file storage and 10 apps or custom integrations (more on that
later).
Currently, there are three pricing tiers available: Free, Standard ($8 or £5.25 a month billed monthly),
and Plus ($15 or £9.75 a month billed monthly). A fourth tier, called Enterprise Grid, has bespoke
pricing for corporates.
