Note:
1. “Nanji” is composed of “ nan” meaning “what” and “ji” meaning “ o-clock”
2. “Gurai” is used to mean “ about” when referring to a particular length of time.
3. “ Osoi” means “ late” and “moo” means “ already . “Moo osoi desu” means” it is
already late.”
How to Express Hours and Minutes
O’clock is translated as “ji”

When Telling Date and Time

If the given time is specific, Do not use the particle “ni” if the time
use the particle “ni.” expression indicates relative time. Just
add the particle “ wa.”

Kare wa rokugatsu ni kimasu. He will come next week.

Making Reservations
1. Watashi wa yakusoku o shitai to omoimasu.
( I would like to make an appointment.

Note: Shi-tai-n desu ga is a set phrase which is a combination of the


verb shimasu and tai-n desu ga indicating a request or a wish. This set phrase is
often used for indicating one's desire / for seeking someone's approval.
