Mine surveyors are responsible for preparing and continuously updating plans and maps of surface and underground mines. They use advanced surveying techniques to determine mining directions, calculate ore production volumes, and ensure the safety of the mine. Mine surveyors face challenges in their daily tasks but find the career rewarding.

Duties of Mine Surveyor • They regularly update surface layouts to account for new structures and buildings. • The mine surveyors are also involved in calculating the volumes of ore production, dumps and wastes. • They Conduct surveys at surface and subsurface mine workings, tunnels, subway sites and underground storage facilities to control direction and extent of mining. Duties of Mine Surveyor • Mine surveyors are responsible for marking out, measuring and maintaining direction of all surface and underground workings on mine sites. • In addition they are also legally responsible for the preparation and updating mine surveying plans for open pit and underground workings on mine sites. Duties of Mine Surveyor • Mine surveyors face challenges in everyday tasks while also they have enjoyable and rewarding career. • There are different types of mine surveyors, with options to work underground, open cut or both, and in the coal industry or various mineral mining industries. • They play important role in designing, planning and safety of surface and underground mining activities. Duties of Mine Surveyor • Compute data necessary for driving and connecting underground passages to control direction and extent of mining operation. • Compute volume of coal or ore in portions of mine, using survey data. • Survey and calculate volume of material deposits, spoil piles, or veins, and amount of overburden to be removed. • Draft or direct others to draft maps of survey data. • They also assist MINING ENGINEERS in planning mining operations. Duties of Mine Surveyor • Mine Surveyors will also deal with ownership rights and negotiating contracts to buy, lease or access sites. • Mine Surveyors form such a critical role in the mining industry as they are able to determine; i) economic viability of a potential mine site, ii) manage and develop the sites, and iii) map and record the extent of mineral extraction. Duties of Mine Surveyor • A Mine Surveyor will closely examine and predict the environmental effects and impacts of mining, including air pollution and the damage to the landscape. • Once the mine has been exhausted he then works with other professionals including environmental professionals and engineers to restore the land and provide advice as to how waste material should be disposed of.
