The document outlines four types of curriculum design: subject-centered, learner-centered, problem-centered, and core curriculum. Subject-centered design focuses on a particular subject like math or biology rather than the individual learner. Learner-centered design also focuses on a particular subject but considers the individual. Problem-centered design teaches students to analyze problems and develop solutions, exposing them to real-world issues. Core curriculum sets educational goals for all students at a specific age or grade level around core subjects like math, science, and history.

THE FOUR TYPES OF
CURRICULUM DESIGN PRESENTED BY: ULEP, CHUCK DANIEL N. SUBJECT-CENTERED DESIGN
• SUBJECT-CENTERED CURRICULUM DESIGN REVOLVES AROUND A PARTICULAR
SUBJECT MATTER OR DISCIPLINE. FOR EXAMPLE, A SUBJECT-CENTERED CURRICULUM MAY FOCUS ON MATH OR BIOLOGY. THIS TYPE OF CURRICULUM DESIGN TENDS TO FOCUS ON THE SUBJECT RATHER THAN THE INDIVIDUAL. LEARNER-CENTERED DESIGN
PROBLEM-CENTERED DESIGN
• ROBLEM-CENTERED CURRICULUM DESIGN IS ALSO A FORM OF STUDENT-
CENTERED DESIGN. PROBLEM-CENTERED CURRICULA FOCUS ON TEACHING STUDENTS HOW TO LOOK AT A PROBLEM AND COME UP WITH A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. STUDENTS ARE THUS EXPOSED TO REAL-LIFE ISSUES, WHICH HELPS THEM DEVELOP SKILLS THAT ARE TRANSFERABLE TO THE REAL WORLD. CORE CURRICULUM LEARNING
• CORE CURRICULUM IS A SET OF EDUCATIONAL GOALS, EXPLICITLY TAUGHT
(AND NOT TAUGHT), FOCUSED ON MAKING SURE THAT ALL STUDENTS INVOLVED LEARN CERTAIN MATERIAL TIED TO A SPECIFIC AGE OR GRADE LEVEL. THE DESIGN OF A CORE CURRICULUM INCLUDES THINGS THAT DO NOT HAVE MUCH RELEVANCE TO A HOMESCHOOLER: GRADE LEVELS, LEARNING DIVIDED INTO DISCRETE SUBJECTS (MATH, SCIENCE, HISTORY, ETC.), TESTING GOALS, AND CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT NEEDS.
