GCSE Vectors

This document provides an overview of vectors and how they are used to represent movement and position. It discusses: 1) The difference between coordinates, which represent position, and vectors, which represent movement and direction. 2) How vectors are written and variables are used to represent them. 3) How vectors can be added, subtracted, and scaled by multiplying them by a scalar value. 4) Examples of vector addition and subtraction problems and their solutions. 5) Common exam question formats involving finding vectors through multiple steps.

Writing Vectors
You’re used to variables representing numbers in maths. They can also
represent vectors!

Scaling Vectors

We can ‘scale’ a vector by

multiplying it by a normal number,
aptly known as a scalar.

The ‘Two Parter’ exam question
