XDSL

XDSL technology allows for high-speed data transmission over regular telephone lines. It utilizes unused bandwidth on copper telephone lines to transmit digital signals up to 50 Mbps. The main types of XDSL are ADSL, HDSL, VDSL, and SDSL. ADSL provides asymmetric bandwidth with higher download speeds than upload speeds. It is commonly used for broadband internet access in homes and small offices.

XDSL Technology

► I) Describe history of XDSL technology

► II) Classification

► III) Describe XDSL connectivity technology

► IV) Nowaday technology used

I) Introduction

► Used to connect the high speed networks

without the much cost that is associated
with the dedicated circuits and frame relay
network technologies
► XDSL is a technology that allows the data
transmission over the regular telephone
lines
► XDSL is a coding technique that allows
digital signals up to 50 Mbps over the
copper pair cables
► XDSL technology uses more bandwidth on
the regular phone lines.
►   DSL is widely used in the
telecommunication networks and in the
broadband services to the corporate
offices and the home users
► The associated flavors and the common
types of the DSL are HDSL, XDSL, VODSL,
ADSL, VDSL and SDSL
► XDSL with the lower data transmission
rate like 1.5 Mbps is being used in the
residences
► XDSLis a high speed connection but on the
downside it has some distance limitations

► I’m using ADSL

II) Classification

► 1.ISDN (Integrated Services Digital

Network )
-The beginning of XDSL
-BRI (Basic Rate Interface) provides two
64kbps channels (B channel) for voice or
data channel and one 16kbps (D channel)
for control information.
-Low-speed packet switching
2. HDSL - high-bit-rate digital
subscriber line
► HDSL based on T1/E1 of America/Europe

► HDSL1 allow transmission of 1.544 Mbps or

2.048 Mbps over 2 or 3 pairs
► HDSL 2 allow transmission of 1.544Mbps
► The advantage of HDSL is a type of
technology does not need repeating stations
3, VDSL - very-high-bit-rate
digital subscriber line
► The highest speed

► 52Mbps,the upload can reach 2,3Mbps

4, ADSL - Asymmetrical DSL
► ADSL provides a
asymmetry bandwidth
upload
on a pair of wires. Download

► Brandwidth of
ADSL 1 1,5Mbps 16kbps
downloading>
Brandwidth of
uploading ADSL 2 3Mbps 16kbps

ADSL 3 6Mbps 64kbps

5, RADSL (rate-adaptive digital
subscriber line)
►A type of ADSL which has a variable speed
