Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical engineering is one of the fundamental parts of science that teaches us to create new
machines, maintain them and design various parts, necessary to be able to solve specific needs. It
is essential to evolve, create and innovate, so having true professionals to develop them is essential.
WHAT IS A
PROJECT?
It is a cyclical activity because they are repeated many times in order to achieve the predetermined goal. It is
very rare that a result is achieved with a single statement of the criteria.
The project is also a unique activity since the criteria, calculations and specifications that serve as the basis for
obtaining a system or a mechanism will not be used in their original form for another project.
TYPES OF PROJECTS:
PROJECT BY EVOLUTION: The project by evolution is an activity that predominated in
the beginnings of engineering, since there was no great demand for technology today; This
consists in that once a certain system was established, it evolved little by little and
improvements were made to it until reaching the desired level at a specific time.
INNOVATION PROJECT:The innovation project requires greater mental discipline. It is an
activity that is more within our previous definitions of engineering.
It has its origin in the activity of engineers, through a study prior to the needs of the market but
not based exclusively on them.
Engineers have a certain sensitivity that allows them to anticipate well in advance what the
future needs of human beings will be and therefore they project with an idea in mind.
CHARACTERISTICS OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
PROJECTS
First of all, each project is unique and different, so it is necessary to control, down to the
last detail, all the sections and parameters (budget, schedule…) of each one of them.
In addition, the project must have the participation of various areas, in order to minimize
the risks that may arise (economic, environmental impact, company image ...).
The project must place special emphasis on the safety and quality of the manufactured
products, whether they are machines or parts.
They can be long-term projects, up to 3 years, more complex, and other sub-projects,
which require a shorter period of time because they are not so complex.
Mechanical engineering projects must place special
emphasis on ensuring the safety and quality of the
products produced
PHASES TO DEVELOP AN ENGINEERING PROJEC
Introduction or summary of the project: the first lines of what the project will be like are
outlined, taking into account the industry in which it is included and, for example, if it is for a
new object or machine or if it consists of the improvement of an existing one.
Engineering objectives: in many cases it can be innovation, in others the satisfaction of
demands or needs.
Scope: what impact will this project generate? Also define the lines of action of its
execution, what is included in it and what is not.
Stages of the manufacturing process: the different phases through which the manufacture
of the product or machine will pass.
Resources for its implementation: in most cases it is industrial materials. What means
and assets do we have to achieve our engineering project? How long?
Regulations and costs: industrial sectors are normally regulated by specific regulations
that must be known.
Results: what do you hope to achieve? Possible observations from the process as a whole
are included here.
