Metals play a very important role in construction work . Due to

their physical and mechanical properties most metals are used for
construction purposes as structural components, pipework,
cladding and other applications.
Some of the most used metals as building materials are :

WHY USE STEEL?
I) Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon, it is a

byproduct of iron smelting that has been
reproduced, reheated and may have added
elements such as copper or bronze.
II) steel is widely used in construction work

due to its high durability as it has the highest
strength to weight ratio among other building
materials making it ideal for both small and
large scale buildings.
III) steel is said to be environment friendly as

it is one of the very few metals which are
continuously recyclable.
IV) Steel is widely used due to its relatively

I) Due to its low carbon content it is one of
the purest form of iron .

compression and shering makes it a very
durable material and because of which it is
used extensively in construction works.
III) It is unaffected due to saline water which

makes it corrosion resistant.
