    LOCATION OF TAMIL NADU
    Tamil Nadu is the eleventh
    largest state in India and covers
    an area of 130,058 square
    kilometers (50,216 sq mi). It is
    bordered by Kerala to the
    west, Karnataka to the
    northwest, Andhra Pradesh to
    the north, the Bay of Bengal to
    the east and the Indian Ocean
     to the south.
    INTRODUCTION
    The state was ranked sixth among states in
    India according to the Human Development
    Index in 2011, and is the second largest state
    economy in India with ₹13,842 billion in gross
    domestic product after Maharashtra. Tamil
    Nadu was ranked as one of the top seven
    developed states in India based on a
    "Multidimensional Development Index" in a
    2013 report published by the Reserve Bank of
    India. Its official language is Tamil, which is one
    of the longest-surviving classical languages in
    the world.
    Tamil Nadu is home to many natural resources. In
    addition, its people have developed and continue
    classical arts, classical music, and classical literature.

    The state is also home to a number of historic buildings


    and religious sites including Hindu temples of Tamil
    architecture, historic hill stations, multi-religious
    pilgrimage sites, and eight UNESCO World Heritage
    Sites.
    LOCAL CUISINE OF TAMIL NADU
    UTTAPAM The traditional way of eating a meal

    involves being seated on the floor,
    KHEER
    IDLI having the food served on a banana
    SAMAR leaf, and using clean fingers of the
    COFFEE right hand to transfer the food to the
    PONGAL mouth.

    Karthigai Deepam
    It is known as the ‘Festival of Lights’ and falls in the month of
    Karthigai (November to mid-December) according to the Tamil
    Calendar.
    People decorate their homes with lights to celebrate
    The birth of Murugan,son of Lord Shiva.

    People believe that on this day Lord Shiva


    appeared in Thiruvannamalai hills and
    they mark this by lighting a huge fire on
    the top of the hill. Ghee and camphor are
    used to light the huge fire and people shout
    saying Annamalaiyarku Arohara. 
    DANCE(BHARATANATYM)

    BHARATNATYM WAS A DANCE TECHNIQUE


    EVOLVED IN THE TAMIL NADU AND PRACTICED
    IN SHIVA TEMPLES.

    BHARATNATYM CONSISTS OF THE HAND,FOOT,


    FACE AND BODY MOVEMENTS,WHICH ARE
    PERFORMED TO THE ACCOMPANIMENT OF 64
    PRINCIPLES OF COORDINATION.

    PRIMARY ASPECTS OF DANCE. THEY ARE BHAVA
    OR MOOD,RAGA OR MUSIC AND MELODY OR
    TIMIMG.

    MADE ON DIFFERENT OBJECTS.

    ARE USED FOR BOTH RELIGIOUS AND
    SECULAR PURPOSES.

    STONE CARVING IS A POPULAR
    FORM OF ART CONTINUED TO
    EXIST OVER CENTURIESTHE SCULPTURES
    ARE SOLD AT HIGH PRICES IN NATIONAL
    AND INTERNATIONAL MARKETS.

    POTTERY
    POTTERY IS AN IMPORTANT CRAFT OF
    TAMIL NADU.THE STATE IS FAMOUS FOR
    ITS MANUFACTURE OF THE AYYANNAR
    HORSES. THE HORSES ARE SAID TO
    PROTECT EACH VILLAGE FROM EVIL.
    TEXTILE
    TAMIL NADU IS VERY FAMOUS FOR THE TEXTILE WORK.
    ERODE IS THE FAMOUS TEXTILE MARKET OF TAMIL NADU.
    THE CITY OF ERODE IS ALSO KNOWN AS TEXTILE CITY.

    TRADING OF TEXTILES DONE FOR ABOUT MORE THAN


    10 CRORES EVERY WEEK.

    THE CHOLA TEMPLES
    THE GREAT LIVING CHOLA TEMPLES CONSTRUCTED BY
    THE KING RAJA RAJA CHOLA ARE SITES OF GLORIOUS
    HERITAGE AND ARCHITECTURAL ACHIEVEMENTS.

    THE TEMPLES WERE BRILLIANT


    ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE
    CHOLA IN ARCHITECTURE,
    SCULPTURE,PAINTING AND
    BRONZE CASTING.
    PANCH RATHAS (MAHABALIPRAM)
    THEY WERE BUILT BY THE PALLAVA KINGS IN THE 7TH AND
    8TH CENTURIES. THE TOWN IS SAID TO HAVE GAIN
    PROMINENCE UNDER THE RULE OF MAMALLA.
    THESE MONUMENTS HAVE BEEN CARVED OUT OF THE
    ROCK ALONG THE COROMANDEL COST.
    THE NILGIRI MOUNTAIN RAILWAY
    PART OF THE MOUNTAIN RAILWAYS OF INDIA,THE
    NILGIRI MOUNTAIN RAILWAY WAS STARED TO BE AN
    “OUTSTANDING EXAMPLES OF BOLD,INGENIOS
    ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS FOR THE PROBLEM OF
    ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE RAIL LINK THROUGH
    A RUGGED,MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN”
    TEMPLES AND TEMPLES TOWN OF TAMIL
    NADU
    CHIDAMBARAM
    CHINDAMBARAM IS THE SEAT OF THE COSMIC DANCER
    LORD NATARAJA.IT IS ONE OF THE PANCHA BHUTASTHALAS .
    THE CHIDAMBARAM TEMPLE DEDICATED TO LORD
    NATRAJA BUILT IN THE 9TH CENTURY HAS AN UNUSUAL
    HUT LIKE SANCTUM WITH A GOLD PLATED ROOF AND
    FOUR TOWERING GUPRAS.
    BRIHADEESWARAR TEMPLE 
    (LOCALLY KNOWN AS "BIG TEMPLE") IS
    A HINDU TEMPLE DEDICATED TO LORD
    SHIVA LOCATED IN THANJAVUR IN
    THE INDIAN STATE OF TAMIL NADU.
    SRIRANGAM
    (IT IS PRESENT IN
    TRIUCHIRAPALLI DISTRICT)
    SRIRANGAM IS THE BIGGEST FUNCTIONING HINDU
    TEM0PLE IN THE WORLD AND THE TEMPLE TOWER
    MEASURING 60M IS THE TALLEST HINDU TEMPLE
    TOWER IN THE WORLD.
    KANCHIPURAM
    ONE OF THE MOST VISITED DESTINATIONS IN THE
    STATE,KANCHIPURAM WAS THE CAPITAL OF THE
    ANCIENT PALLAVA KINGDOM AND IS CONSIDERED
    ONE OF THE SEVEN HOLIEST CITIES TO THE HINDUS
    OF INDIA.
    MADURAI
    The city has a number of historical monuments,
    with the Meenakshi Amman Temple  and Tirumalai
    Nayak Palace being the most prominent. Madurai is
    an important industrial and educational hub in
    South Tamil Nadu.
