EET308 PFA Solving Problem 1 GS

This document discusses using the Gauss-Seidel method to solve a 3-bus power flow problem. It provides the one-line diagram of the system showing bus voltages, loads, and line impedances. It then shows the steps to: 1) Perform one iteration of the Gauss-Seidel method using initial voltage estimates. 2) Calculate line flows, losses, and slack bus power given the converged voltages. 3) Draw a power flow diagram showing the results.

Prob.1
GS Method
• Figure 6.20 shows the one-line diagram of a simple three-bus power
system with generation at bus 1. The voltage at bus 1 is V1 =1.0 <0o per
unit. The scheduled loads on buses 2 and 3 are marked on the diagram.
Line impedances are marked in per unit on a 100-MVA base.
• (a) Using Gauss Seidel method and initial estimates of V2(0) =1.0 +j0 and
V3(0) =1.0 +j0, calculate V2 and V3. Perform one iteration.
• (b) If after several iterations the bus voltage converge to
V2 =0.90 - j0.10 pu
V3 =0.95 – j0.05 pu
• Calculate the line flows and line losses and the slack bus real and reactive
power. Construct a power flow diagram and show the direction of the line
flows.
