This document summarizes the process of converting GIS dongle based licenses to IP based licenses. The objective is to move from physical server based licenses to virtual server licenses. This will allow users to access applications without interruptions from network issues. Previously, there was a dependency on physical servers which prevented DR drills and required a USB dongle. The new process installs applications and databases on a single virtual server and registers IP based licenses to allow user access without managing dongles or separate servers. It removes physical server dependencies and allows DR drills while reducing application response times.

Conversion of GIS dongle based licenses to IP based licenses


Summary of the Process
Objective
Physical server based licenses are being moved to Virtual Server

Scope

The dongle based licence key will not have to be managed and synced with physical server

Why it is important to the Organization / Customer

Users of EO application will be able to access application without any hault in case of network issue as well.
Process Flow – As Is
Before this project, there was dependency on physical server due to which DR drill could not be done , also to
insert the dongle USB port dependency was prevailing.

Application has been installed along with database

Licence file has been registered on server

users access the licences.
Challenges / Magnitude
How have you identified the challenges / What is the measure (KPI)
The following challenges have been identified:

1) Installations on physical server were not intact


2) Installed every application on server with upgraded version
3) Registered license with upgraded installed application
4) DR drill could not be done due to physical server limitations
5) Dongle based license was dependent on USB port

What is the baseline / Where should we focus (Pain Area)

1) Physical server dependency had to be removed.


Root Cause Analysis
WHY 1 DR drill could not be done

WHY 2 USB port dependency was prevailing

WHY 3 Database had to be accessed from different server increasing application response time

WHY 4

HOW 1 – Application response time is reduced to much extent by installing applications and database on single

What needs to be changed
A new way of managing the licenses on IP based has been introduced .

How do you validate/verify improvements / changes

USB port does not have to be managed, DR drill can be done , do not need different servers
for managing application and database seprately .
Process Flow – New
New physical server has been introduced

All EO applications and database installed on single server

License file registered on the virtual server

Product installed on virtual server registered with the IP based license file

All the other servers running different production environment of EO application will now access the new
virtual server
Sustainability
How will you maintain improvement

The new system has already been implemented and since then all the applications are running good
in terms of license usage . So far, the system has been successfully running.
