Question 3
Q 3a: How does the system development
life cycle (SDLC) works?
• System development life cycle (SDLC) is a series of steps that
companies use to build an information system.
• Its also known as application development life cycle.
• It’s a series of phases to plan, analyze, design, implement and
support an information system.
• SDLC is a waterfall model. That means each phase appears to be
connected by another phase by their inputs and outputs. For
example, output of system planning (first phase) will be the input
of system design (second phase).
Q 3b: Describe the 5 phases of the
Systems development Life Cycle
(SDLC).
Phase 1 : System Planning (Preliminary Investigation)
Phase 2 : System Analysis
Phase 3 : System Design
Phase 4 : System Implementation
Phase 5 : System Operation, Support & Security
(Maintenance)
