Electric Drill
• Use a drilling machine which is appropriate and adequately sized for the
drilling task
• Take care to position hands to withstand torque, especially while drilling on a
plate which has more thickness:
– when the drilling bit struck with the plate, the handle will twist violently
• Always use the correct chuck to tighten the drill bit
– ensure the chuck is removed before operating the drill
• Use the correct type of drill bit for the material being drilled:
– Do not use wood bits on metal or masonry
– do not use steel bits on masonry
• Use Eye/Face protection while drilling(e.g Goggles&Face shield)
• Scrap metal and cuttings shall be removed from the tools and work area after
use.

Use of compressed air
• Prior to using any air tool, the operator must be trained in the correct safety
precautions associated with its use.
• Compressed air can be an extreme hazard to personnel:
– never blow compressed air against any skin surface or under clothing
– never use compressed air to blow dust/chips from hair or clothing
– never use compressed air to clean out a wound
• All air tools will exhaust air at medium pressure:
– the air tool and operators body (and especially face) shall be positioned
such that the exhaust air does not impact the operator
– regardless of other PPE requirements, goggles/Face shield shall be
worn when operating air tools.
• All specific safety precautions and PPE for specific electric tool types shall
also be applied to similar pneumatic tools
