Objectives :
At the end of the session, the participants should be
able to:
1. Explain the value of Smartness and Good Order.

2. Demonstrate the different Group formations;

3. Discuss the proper wearing of Scout uniform for


Leader of Adults; and
4. Demonstrate the sequence of activities during
Morning Flag-Raising Ceremonies

The Need for SMARTNESS


1. Smartness speaks of good discipline.
2. Wearing of correct uniform and shunning
eccentricities is the Leader’s RESPONSIBILITY.
3. Public relation is also the Leader’s
RESPONSIBILITY.
4. Wearing the uniform is an honor and a privilege
and therefore should be worn correctly at all
times.

The Need for GOOD ORDER


1. Good order is maintained is Scouting through
the use of DRILLS, HAND SIGNALS and
others.
2. Outfit and Groups are also trained to use
WORDS OF COMMAND.
3. ORDERS should be given through Senior
Group Leader whenever possible.
GROUP WHISTLE CALLS AND SIGNALS

Scouting also makes use of whistle signals.


Most commonly used signal is as follows:
 
1. Attention ____________ one long blast

2. Assembly .________ . . . short, long, short, short, short

3. Group Leaders ._____ _____. short, long, long, short

4. Double Time . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . successive short

5. Service Group . . . _______ short, short, short, long

6. Program Group . . _______. short, short, long, short

7. Ration Call . ____________ . short, long, short


GROUP FORMATION
1. Open Single Rank or In-Open Line-Formation
 Signal: Extend both arms horizontally, parallel to the line the Troop
must make.
 Execution: The Patrol lines 6 paces away from the Senior Patrol
Leader. Patrol Leaders take position in front and center of their
Patrols. Patrols form in line two paces behind their patrol leaders.
Intervals between Patrols should be two paces. The Assistant Patrol
Leaders should stay at the right most of their Patrol. The line
automatically dresses right.
 Uses: For general formation, for inspection, in preparing to move from
one point to another.
2. Closed Single Rank or Troop In Closed Line
Formation
 Signal: Extend both arms horizontally, parallel to the line the Troop must take, with
palms closed.
 Execution: Same as Single Rank Except that the Patrol Leaders will position
themselves at the right most of their Patrol while the Assistant Patrol Leaders position
themselves at the left most of their Patrol.
 Uses: Same as Single Rank Formation.
3. Council or Semi-Circle Formation
 Signal: Both arms obliquely downward with palms facing inward. 
 Execution: Patrols fall in a single line semi circular formation in front of the
Senior Patrol Leader. The Patrol Leaders form at the right most of their Patrol.
The Assistant Patrol Leader forms at the left most. Interval between Patrol is
two paces. The Senior Patrol Leader should be 6 paces in front and center of
the formation.
 Uses: For Demonstration, announcements, or special ceremonies
4. “U” Formation
 Signal: Both arms extended side wards with elbows bent at right angles, and
the palms open facing the head as to form the letter U.
 Execution: Patrol form in U formation in front and center of the Senior Patrol
Leader. Patrol Leaders form at the right most of their Patrol while the Assistant
Patrol Leaders form at the left most of their Patrol. Interval between Patrol is
two paces. The Senior Patrol Leader should be 6 paces in front and center of
the formation.
 Uses: For Flag Ceremonies, recognitions, demonstration, instruction, Troop
meeting and some games.
5. Circle Formation
 Signal: Both arms obliquely downward with palms facing inward and being
swung in circular manner from front to rear repeatedly.
 Execution: Patrol form a complete circle around the Senior Patrol Leader.
Patrol Leaders stay at the right most of the Patrol while the Assistant Patrol
Leaders stay at the left most. Interval between Patrol is two paces. The Senior
Patrol Leader should be 6 paces in front and center of the formation.
 Uses: Ceremonies and circular games.
6. Open Column of Patrols
 Signal: Both arm extended forward with the elbow bent at right angels and the
palms open and facing the Senior Patrol Leader.
 Execution: Patrol form in line one behind the other, 6 paces in front of the
Senior Patrol Leader, dressing immediately on the front Patrol and on the right.
Patrol Leaders position themselves in front and center of their Patrol at a
distance of two paces. Intervals between Patrol should be four faces. Assistant
Patrol Leaders positions themselves at the right most of their Patrol.
 Uses: inspection and parade formation.
7. Closed Column of Patrols
 Signal: Same as the Open Column of Patrols except that the palms
are closed in a fist.
 Execution: Same as for open column of Patrol except that the
Patrol Leaders form at the right most of their Patrol and the
Assistant Patrol Leaders form at the left most. Interval between
Patrol is two paces.
 Uses: For inspection and parades.
8. Parallel Formation
 Signal: Arms extended forward at shoulder level with palms open and facing
each other.
 Execution: Patrol form in column 6 paces in front of the Senior Patrol Leader.
Patrol Leaders stay in front of their Patrol while the Assistant Patrol Leader stay
at the rear. Distance between the Senior Patrol Leader and the line of Patrol is
five paces. Interval between Patrol is the length of one arm.
 Uses: For relays and other games. Also for parades or as a preparatory
formation for some Patrol movement.
9. Dismissal
 Execution: Swing arms downward in crossed-front position repeated several
times.
 Uses: for breaking up formation or sending operations.
GROUP GESTURE AND FIELD SIGNALS

1. Forward- Extend the right arm


upward then it bring it down to the
front at shoulder level showing the
direction of movement.

2. HALT- Bring the hand straight


up with the palm-facing front.

3. Hurry - Closed fisted arm raised


over the head and pumped up and
down.
4. Down - From arms forward at
shoulder level palms down, bring
the palms to waist level.

5. Spread Out - Extend arms


forward at shoulder level. Move the
arms sideward with the palms facing
outward at shoulder level.

6. Assemble - Arms raised over the head


with the pointer finger pointed to the sky.
Move the pointed finger in circular motion and
put it down to where they must assemble.
7. Turn This Way - Arms raised
sideward and pointing to the direction of
movement.

9. Silence, Alert – scout sign.

10. Parade Rest– Two Taps of the hand on

THE SCOUT UNIFORM

The Scout Uniform


The Scout uniform gives the Scouts and
Scouters:
 A sense of belonging to a worldwide organization.
 A national symbol of young boys trained to meet the
responsibilities of their duty to GOD and Country, to
Others, and to Self.
 The largest uniformed volunteer organization in the
country. Scout and Scouters are nationally accepted.

The Scout Uniform


Scout Uniform contributes to better and more effective
Scouting:
 It reminds the boys to live up to the Scout Ideals:

 It denotes equality.

 It encourages neat and correct appearance as well as

proper behavior.
 It offers the proper place for the display of his badges

and awards.
 It gives people so much information about the boy. All

these give the boy pride and a desire to achieve more.

GUIDELINES ON UNIFORMS
1. TYPE A – complete uniform consisting of the shirt and pants
(either long or short) with complete patches, strips, badges and
insignia and with neckerchief.
a. Long or short pants for male adult leaders.
b. Skirt (A line), shorts, culottes, long pants for female adult
leaders
c. Short pants for KID.KAB/BOY scouts.
d. Long pants for SENIOR scouts
2. TYPE B – Official pants whether it is long or shorts with white
T-shirts plain or colored with the official BSP neckerchief.
3. TYPE C – Casual or civilian clothes with the official BSP
necherchief.

WHEN TO WEAR THE UNIFORM 


The Scout Uniform is worn on the following
occasions:
 At all Group and Outfit meetings.
 At camps,educational trips and other activities with the Outfit,
district or Council, the uniforms is worn to and from the camps
with informal clothes being reserved for regular camp routines
 During training courses, conferences and district, council, regional
and national gathering.
 Whenever appearing before the public with uniformed Boy
Scouts.

WHEN NOT TO WEAR THE UNIFORM

 When soliciting funds or engage in any selling,


marketing or promotional campaign, or in any
commercial venture not related to Scouting
(This does not however, forbid Scouts in
uniform from selling tickets for Scouts benefits
shows, rallies, and similar Scouting events);
 When engage in any endeavor/activity of a

political party;

WHEN NOT TO WEAR THE UNIFORM

 When appearing professionally on stage, in motion


pictures, or modeling without specific authority from the
National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of the
Philippines;
 When taking part in parades, except for the purpose of

rendering service as a Scout/er or when representing


officially the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, and;
 When one ceases to be a Scout/er through failure to

register; or leaves the Scout Movement for any other


reason.
