Info Object within BW
Business evaluation objects are referred to as the
Info objects in the BW
Info objects are divided into :-
- Characteristics
- Key figures
- Units
- Time Characteristics
Info objects have three basic functions
Component of an Info source, as a field of a
structure
Formation of an Info cube by representing key
figures and characteristics
Complete an info source with Master data and
Hierarchies
Business Content
Business Content is a preconfigured set of role and task-
relevant information models based on consistent Metadata
in the SAP Business Information Warehouse. Business
Content provides selected roles within a company with the
information they need to carry out their tasks.
These information models essentially contain:
• Data Provision: Extractors, DataSources and InfoSources
• Warehouse Management: InfoCubes, InfoObjects, etc.
• Analysis: Queries, KPIs
• Information Deployment: Roles, Workbooks

DataSource
Data that logically belongs together is stored in the
source system in the form of DataSources.
A DataSource contains a number of fields in a flat
structure used to transfer data into BW (
Extract Structure). It also describes the properties of
the extractor belonging to it, as regards the data
transfer into BW. During a Metadata upload, the
properties of the DataSource relevant to BW are
replicated in BW.

Extract Structure
In the extract structure, data from a DataSource
is staged in the source system. The extract
structure contains the amount of fields that are
offered by an extractor in the source system for
the data loading process.

Transfer Structure
Definition
The transfer structure is the structure in which the data is
transported from the source system into the SAP
Business Information Warehouse.
It provides a selection of the extract structure fields for
the source system.
Use
The transfer structure provides BW with all the source
system information available for a business process.
An InfoSource in BW requires at least one DataSource for
data extraction. DataSource data that logically belongs
together is staged in an extract structure in an SAP
source system.
Transfer Structure
Transfer Rules
When you have maintained the transfer structure
and the communication structure, you use the
transfer rules to determine how the transfer
structure fields are to be assigned to the
communication structure InfoObjects.
You can arrange for a 1:1 assignment. But you can
also fill InfoObjects using routines or constants.
InfoSource
Definition
InfoSource describes the quantity of all the data
available for a business transaction
An InfoSource is a quantity of information that
logically belongs together, summarized into a single
unit. InfoSources contain either transaction data or
master data (attributes, texts and hierarchies).
InfoSource Types
There are basically two types of InfoSources.
1. InfoSources for master data
2. InfoSource for transaction data
InfoSource Types...
InfoSources for master data:
Various types of master data like Master Data, Text
and Hierarchies can be uploaded to a master data
InfoSource.
Master Data InfoSource
InfoSource Types...
InfoSources for transaction data:
In the case of transaction data, uploaded data is
transformed by the transfer rules, which have been
created for the current combination of InfoSource
and source system and for each InfoObject of the
communication structure.
Data is loaded from the communication structure
into the InfoCubes/ODS objects with the help of
update rules.

Update Rules
Definition
The update rules specify how the data (key figures,
time characteristics, characteristics) are updated in
the data targets from the communication structure of
an InfoSource. You are therefore connecting an
InfoSource with an InfoCube/ODS object.
Use
An update rule must be specified for each key figure
and the corresponding characteristics of the
InfoCube. Do the same with the data fields and key
fields of an ODS object.
