INTRODUCTION
• The National Education Policy 2020 , which was approved by the Union Cabinet
of India on 29 July 2020, outlines the vision of India's new education system.
• The new NEP replaces the one that was formulated in 1986, which is around 34
years ago.
• The government has set up a target of 2040 to implement the entire NEP policy.
• the National Education Policy has all the promising key points that are expected
to prove beneficial to enable an individual to study one or more specialized
areas of interest at a deep level .

EDUCATION POLICY
• The vision of the National Education Policy is:
National Education Policy 2019 envisions an India-
centric education system that contributes directly to
transforming our nation sustainably into an
equitable and vibrant knowledge society by
providing high-quality education to all.
Major Changes IN
NEP
• The new education policy will create an
independent regulatory body called the State
School Regulatory Authority to oversee all the
key areas.
• NEP aims at compulsory school education for
all children in the age group of 3-18 years by
2030.
• NEP continues with the three-language
formula and adds "The Languages of India"
with an aim to preserve all local languages.
• The new education policy aims to give
students increased flexibility and choice of
subjects to study across the arts, humanities,
sciences, sports, and vocational subjects.

• NEP has proposed a new curricular with 5+3+3+4
structure.
• High performing Indian universities will be encouraged to
set up campuses in other countries.
• Selected universities like those from among the top 100
universities in the world will be facilitated to operate in
India.
• A National Research Foundation will be established to
grant competitive funding for outstanding research
proposals across all disciplines.
• The Rashtriya Shiksha Aayog or National Education
Commission will be headed by the Prime Minister of
India. States may set up apex State-level bodies called
the Rajya Shiksha Aayog or the State Education
Commission.
• While the 1986 policy emphasised on achieving
uniformity of education across social groups, it did not
account for the competitive global landscape, which
became important SINCE 1991
• NEP 2020 is an attempt to balance local and global
human resource needs of growing India economy.
Comparison of • The NEP 1986 was geared towards providing standard
educational opportunities to various social groups
NEP 2020 therefore, its primary purpose was largely centered on
the inclusion of disadvantaged groups.
AND 1986 • The NEP 2020 retains the focus on social inclusivity, it
also hopes for the creation of special education zones
in the areas having a significant proportion of
disadvantaged groups.
• The NEP 2020 has a significant focus on skill-based
learning and employability arising out of it.
• According to NPE 1986, the aim of education is
threefold, namely, the overall development of
the human resource, international co-operation,
and peaceful co-existence, development of
socialism, secularism, and democracy.

• The curriculum in the new policy is more
inclined to allow for critical thinking, discussion,
and analytical learning, which aims to enrich
India’s talent and human resource pool.
CONCLUSION
• The National Education Policy, 2020 aims to shift towards more scientific approach to education.
It will help to cater ability of the child in different stages of development.
• This includes cognitive development, social and physical development.
• When implemented, the policy will bring India at par with leading countries of the world.
• With the implementation of the new NEP 2020, the Indian education system is poised to
become closer to international standards.
• In an online survey conducted across 1103 students across India, nearly 96.4% were optimistic
about the results that come out of the implementation of new policy.
