What is Computer Literacy?

 The precise definition of "computer literacy" can vary from group to group.
Generally, literate connotes one who can read any arbitrary book in their native
language[s], looking up new words as they are exposed to them. Likewise, an experienced computer
professional may consider the ability to self-teach to be central to computer literacy.

literacy generally refers to the ability to use applications rather than to program.
Individuals who are very computer literate are sometimes called power users.

When a user has mastered the basics, intermediate classes can teach them how to directly manipulate the computer system to return their
expected results. This is more than simply using an application, but accessing, installing, and configuring applications to do what the user
wishes. At this stage, the user is considered functional in computer knowledge. Associated skills include:
 Difference between computer types
 Researching new software
 Installing and removing software
 Backing up data
 Accessing remote data on the internet
 Basic online collaboration
 Basic online and offline gaming
 Understanding basic computer security

Advanced Element
Once the user surpasses the fundamental and functional level, they progress into the sphere of literacy. In this sphere,
users are able to manipulate the computer to not only do what they need, but also do what others may need, research
new ideas, and secure their interests. Computers at this level become intrinsic to the person and skill use becomes
synonymous with both ca reer and personal interests.

 Unlike the Fundamental and Intermediate levels, however, users at the literate stage generally take
computers into new skills. A small subset of these specializations are below:

 Game design and theory
 Computer programming
 Computer scripting
