Seeing Life from God’s
Point of View The Purpose-Driven Life by Rick Warren What is your life? James 4:14 (NIV) James 4:14 (KJV)
Whereas you know not what
shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. How do you see your life? Some people say life is… • A circus • A minefield • A roller coaster • A puzzle • A symphony • A journey • A dance Life is a carousel: Sometimes you’re up, sometimes you’re down, and sometimes you just go round and round.
Life is a game of cards: You have
to play the hand you are dealt. Your unspoken life metaphor influences your life more than you realize. Romans 12:2 (TEV) Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God. The bible offers three metaphors that teach us God’s view of life: Life is a test. Life is a trust. Life is a temporary assignment. Life on earth is a Test.
God continually tests people’s
character, faith, obedience, love, integrity, and loyalty. Character is both developed an revealed by tests and all of life if a test. You are always being tested. God continually watches your response to people, problems, success, conflict, illness, disappointment and even the weather! The Good News
God wants you to pass the
tests of life, so he never allows the tests you face to be greater than the grace he gives you to handle them. What has happened to me recently that I now realize was a test from God? Life on earth is a Trust.
Our time on earth and our
energy, intelligence, opportunities, relationships, and resources are all gifts from God that he has entrusted to our care and management. Matthew 25:21 (NIV) “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness.” Luke 12:48 (NIV) From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. What are the greatest matters God has entrusted to me? Life is a temporary assignment.
Lord, remind me how brief my
time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered, and that my life is fleeing away. Psalm 39:4 (NLT) To make the best use of your life, you must never forget two truths: First, compared with eternity, life is extremely brief. Second, earth is only a temporary residence. God says his children are to think differently about life the way unbelievers do. “All they think about this life here on earth. But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives.” Your identity is in eternity, and your homeland is in heaven. God is very blunt about the danger of living for the here and now and adopting the values, priorities, and lifestyles of the world around us. When we flirt with the temptations of this world, God calls it spiritual adultery. James 4:4 (Msg)
You’re cheating on God. If all you
want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and his way. 1 Peter 2:11 (Msg)
Friends, this world is not your
home, so don’t make yourselves cozy in it. Don’t indulge your ego at the expense of your soul. The Retiring Missionary 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)
So we fix our eyes not on what
is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. How should the fact that life on earth is just a temporary assignment change the way I am living now? The Danger
Thousands pass through life as if
they had no definite object for which to live, no standard to reach. MYP p. 99 Life is a test. Life is a trust. Life is a temporary assignment. A Faithful Friend When Christ ascended to the Father, He did not leave Hid followers without help. The Holy Spirt, as His representative, and the heavenly angels, as ministering spirits, are sent forth to aid those who against great odds are fighting the good fight of faith. Ever remember that Jesus is your helper. MYP p. 1
