What is Human Resource?

 Conceptualizing HUMAN RESOURCE

 The personnel of a business or organization, regarded as a significant asset in


terms of skills and abilities (Oxford Dictionary)

 Human resources is the set of the people who make up the workforce of an
organization, business sector, industry, or economy
Related concepts

 Organization

 An organization consists of people (in this case, people like Elance’s own in-
house sales managers and Web designers) with formally assigned roles who
work together to achieve the organization’s goals.

 Manager

 A manager is someone who is responsible for accomplishing the


organization’s goals, and who does so by managing the efforts of the
organization’s people.

checking to see how actual performance compares with these standards; taking
corrective action as needed
Human Resource Management

 Human resource managers are usually staff managers. They assist and advise
line managers in areas like recruiting, hiring, and compensation.

 Generally run departments that are advisory or supportive, like purchasing


and human resource management.
