    INTRODUCTION

     Ambica Shrestha is a Nepalese entrepreneur as well as the president of Dwarika´s Hotels and
    Resorts.

     Educated at Loreto Convent School and St Joseph for college, both in Darjeeling.

     Ambica Shrestha caused a stir when she married into an orthodox newari family(to Mr
    Dwarika Prasad Shrestha, an artist) in Nepal.

     With the help of Ambica,Shrestha founded a high end heritage hotel with a collection of
    antique art.

    CURRENT • Ambika Shrestha is working as honorary consulate General
    Spain for Nepal.
    POSITION
    • She is an initiator and co-founder of Business and Professional
    Women’s Club (BPWC),formally registered in 1977 that
    facilitates business women in Nepal.

    • Works to preserve the cultural heritage of Nepal and improve the


    lot of unpriviledged women.

    • Currently works towards helping women.

    • She is the Chairperson of Nepal Jaycees, has founded an
    international organization which helps women of over 83
    countries of the world in various ways.

    HOW SHE • Mrs. Shrestha, educated in Kalimpong, Darjeeling, caused quite a stir with
    STARTED HER her modern ideas after she was married into the orthodox Newar family of
    Dwarika Das Shrestha in 1955.
    JOURNEY?
    • When an American lady asked a room, she made a room for her on the top
    her cowshed .

    • Being impressed by the old carvings people suggested her to preserve the
    carvings and make a room.

    • Mrs. Shrestha took the suggestions and let her cows go and built 5 rooms
    in the cowshed and her garage.
    • Things took off and more people started coming which made the duo
    HOW SHE leave their home and rent a place for themselves and convert their home
    STARTED HER which had 5 rooms into a 5-room lodge.
    JOURNEY?
    • By 1981, four years since they started the lodge, the business was
    successful enough for them to add another block of ten rooms. In 1991,
    another ten rooms were added to their lodge.
    PROBLEMS • Mrs. Shrestha was shunned by her family for going out of
    home and working.
    FACED
    • When her husband passed away,Mrs. Shrestha had to face a
    big loss in Japan and India because many people looked down
    on her as a woman.

    • She worked very hard on the tours and travels segment for
    many years since there were not many tour operators in the
    country.

    CONCLUSION

    Ambica Shrestha, the president of The Dwarika’s Hotel, is a very strong determinant woman who
    took command of the growing business in that time when her husband passed away in 1991 and
    raised her small hotel into one of the most reputed, high end hotels of Nepal. This all was made
    possible due to determination of Ambica Shrestha.

    Ambica Shrestha, a simple – minded woman is a great supporter of women and believes that if
    women are given opportunity, they can prove what they can do. So, the one thing that we can
    learn from her life is to never give up, no matter how difficult the path is.
