◎ Now let’s see how well you can act. You will be given 5
student SKILLS. You have to "act out" a word/phrase without
speaking, No words. No pointing at objects in a room. No lip
movements. Your team members must guess the word/phrase as
quickly as possible before time runs out.
◎ The actor has limited time (2 minutes) to act out the phrase to
his own team.

What are skills?

Skills are considered as the personal


abilities to do things well. They come
from the totality of the knowledge,
practice of experience, and a aptitude of a
person
Skills are required and developed by a
person through constant and correct
practice. They connote dexterity,
excellence, and expertise in the
performance of particular tasks. They are
clear manifestations of the abilities of a
person to carry out complex tasks.
” Entrepreneurial skills are at times a
god gift and sometimes gained, but in
both the cases polishing is always
required and one can develop it” 7

ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS

These refer to set of cognitive, technical


and interpersonal skills required in the
practice of entrepreneurship.
COGNITIVE SKILLS

◎ refer to the mental ability of the entrepreneur


to learn new things, generate new ideas and
express knowledge in both oral and written
forms.
◎ 
The cognitive skills of an entrepreneur include the
following:
 
◎ Ability to understand written materials
◎ Ability to learn and apply new information
◎ Ability solve problems systematically
◎ Ability to crate new ideas
◎ Ability to innovate new products and
procedures or methods.
Problem-solving Skill
◎ Problems are common in the life of an
entrepreneur as he/she manages the day to day
operations of the business venture. These
problems can be big or small, ordinary or
unusual and repetitive and non-repetitive.
◎ 
Whatever the nature, type, or size of the
business problem, the entrepreneur must
face it, solve it, and make a decision. In
making a business decision, the
entrepreneur adopts the scientific approach
instead of making an intuitive decision.
The scientific approach in solving business
problems involves.
 
1. Defining the real problem
2. Gathering information about the problem
3. Formulating alternative solutions
4. Evaluating alternative solutions
5. Selecting an implementing the optimal
solutions; and
6. Evaluating the decision
TECHNICAL SKILLS
The technical skills focus mainly on the
mechanical or practical aspect of a person rather
than his/her abstract or theoretical thinking. The
technical skills are the external replica of a person’
cognitive skills.
The technical skills of an entrepreneur include
proficiency and ability, among others in the
flowing areas:
 
1. Information technology
2. Feasibility study and business plan
preparations
3. Technical writing skills
4. Marketing
5. Management and finance.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
◎ Interpersonal skills are basically about the
relationship and interaction of the entrepreneur
with the workers, suppliers, creditors,
prospective, customer, and other members of
the business community.
◎ 
The interpersonal skills of an entrepreneur may
include, among others, the following:
◎ Skills in verbal communication
◎ Skills in non-verbal communication
◎ Skills in listening 18

To become a successful entrepreneur, it is vital for
you to acquire, develop, and enhance your
entrepreneurial skills involving the cognitive,
technical, and interpersonal skills.

financing, equipment, land, work, space
assistance.

NT CLUSTER
A highly committed entrepreneur
1. accepts full responsibility for what has been
promised to the customers.
2. Establishes proper coordination with and
among workers, so that goods and services
are delivered as promised’ and
3. Seeks to patronize the satisfaction and interest
of customers.
ACHIEVEME ◎ PERSISTENT
NT CLUSTER
An entrepreneur who is persistent is the one who
1. Takes repeated or different actions in order to
overcome the obstacles
2. Make personal sacrifices or exert
extraordinary effort to complete required task,
and
3. Stick to his/her own judgment in times of
opposition and failure.

◎ RISK-TAKER
Risk is inseparable from entrepreneurship.
There are three types of risk-takers:
1. An aggressive risk-taker is not scared to take any risks

2. A moderate risk-taker is more calculative in taking


risks. He/she analyzes the situation before taking the
leap.
3. A conservative risk-taker is not very eager to take any
kind of risk. He/she satisfied with managing a small
business and regular clientele.

A successful entrepreneur highly values efficiency
and the concept of quality in all business
undertaking. He/she
1. Always performs the required tasks in
accordance with existing standards of

minimal cost.
PLANNING ◎ GOAL SETTER
CLUSTER
A successful entrepreneur sets clear, specific and
well defined short- and- long term goals and
objectives.

Goals and Objectives must be SMART. (Specific,


Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-
bound).
PLANNING INFORMATION- SEEKER
CLUSTER A successful information seeker
1. Seeks relevant information on target customers, suppliers of
raw materials, and competitors.
2. Verifies available information from various sources, both
private and public, like printed materials and agencies.
3. Seeks opinion and advice from experts in the business field;
and
4. Finds other possible ways to make sure that the desired
information is complete.
PLANNING SYSTEMATIC IN PLANNING AND MONITORING
CLUSTER A successful entrepreneur adopts a systematic and coordinated
planning and monitoring activities where she/he
1. Gathers all the qualitative and quantitative information before
formulating the plans.
2. Develops logical step-by-step approach on the formulation of
the plans.
3. Monitors the progress of activities and switches the alternatives
strategies when deemed necessary, and
4. Evaluates constantly the alternatives in achieving the goals
POWER PERSUASIVE and POSITIVE NETWORKER
CLUSTER As a persuasive and positive networker, the successful
entrepreneur usually
1. Adopts specific strategies that will influence and
convince others while maintain the highest degree of
respect, and
2. Makes use of positive contacts in the business
community in order to meet the goals an objectives of
the business endeavor.
POWER SELF-CONFIDENT
CLUSTER
Successful entrepreneur are known to have high level of
self-confidence. They project a favorable image of
themselves which is founded on respect and good deeds in
the business community. Entrepreneurial self-confidence is
actually a manifestations of the entrepreneur's strong trust
or belief in himself/herself.
Why is it knowing yourself completely plays an
important role in entrepreneurship?
