Semester : 1st Sem

Course Name: Computer & Information
Systems
TOPICS TO BE COVERED:
Introduction to Devices
Types of Devices
Explanation of various types
of devices
Conclusion
Introduction to
Computer Devices:
Computer Device : Any electronic equipment
controlled by a CPU , including Desktop and Laptop
computers , Smart phones and Tablets.
It usually refers to a general-purpose device that can
accept software for many purposes.
Types of Devices:
Input Devices Output Devices
INPUT
DEVICES
An input device is a
piece of equipment
used to provide data
and control signals to
an information
processing system
such as a computer or
information appliance.
OUTPUT
DEVICES
An output device is
any piece of computer
hardware equipment
which converts
information into
human –readable
form. It can be text ,
graphics, audio and
video.
INPUT
DEVICES
SCANNER
A Device that optically scans
images , printed text ,
handwriting or an object and
converts it to a digital image.
Commonly used in offices are
variations of the desktop
flatbed scanner where the
document is placed on a glass
window for scanning.

E-Equipment
A mouse is a device that is
connected to a computer . By
moving it over a flat surface and
pressing its buttons , you can move
the cursor around the screen and do
things without using the keyboard.
KEYBOARD
A keyboard is basically a
board of keys along with
the mouse. The keyboard is
one of the primary input
device. The keyboards
design comes from the
original typewriter keyboard
which arranged letters and
numbers in a way that
prevented the type bars from
getting jammed when typing
quickly.
OUTPUT
DEVICES
SPEAKER
Speaker are popular output
devices used with computer
systems. They receive audio
input from the computers sound
card and produce audio output in
the form of sound waves .
Speakers usually come in pairs
which allows them to produce
stereo sound from two separate
audio channels.
MONITOR
A computer monitor is an output
device that displays information in
pictorial form. A monitor usually
comprises the visual display ,
circuitry , casing and power
supply .
Monitors also refer to speakers
used for monitoring sound used
by studio monitors to listen to
recordings.

A printer is an output device
that prints paper documents.
This include text documents,
images or a combination of
both.

Two most common types of

printers are :
Inkjet printer
Laser printer
Conclusion
The computers will be of no use unless it is able to
communicate with the outside world. Input and Output
devices are required for users to communicate with the
computer. In simple terms, input devices bring
information into the computer and output devices
bring information out of a computer system. These
input and output devices are also known as peripherals
since they enclose the CPU and memory of a
computer system.
