Division of Polynomials: Sir. Francis Kenneth L. Berina

A polynomial is an algebraic expression involving constants and variables with non-negative integer exponents, such as x^2 + 3x + 5. Polynomials can be univariate, involving one variable, or multivariate, involving more than one variable. The long division algorithm is used to divide one polynomial by another, resulting in a quotient polynomial and remainder polynomial. According to the algorithm, the divisor polynomial is repeatedly subtracted from the dividend polynomial until the remaining dividend has a degree less than the divisor.

POLYNOMIAL:

 It
is an algebraic expression of the form where n is a non negative integer and , … , are
constants.
 A polynomial can be written in the form of a function as , where the right side of the equation is
a polynomial expression.

“Univariable Polynomial” – is a polynomial in ONE VARIABLE.

“Multivariate Polynomial”- Is a polynomial in MORE THAN ONE VARIABLE.
LONG DIVISION ALGORITHM


 When the dividend cannot be divided by the divisor or if the degree of the dividend is less than
that of the divisor, then the difference obtained is the “remainder”. The Result will be express as

 There for the Answer will become


NOTE: We Inserted 0 for the Missing Power of “x” in the Dividend “P(x)”.
So the answer will become:
