Seminar On: Dr. B. Sateesh

This document describes a seminar on analyzing the performance of an automobile suspension system using MATLAB. It presents a quarter car model of a passive suspension system and uses MATLAB, Simulink, and Simscape to simulate and analyze the system. The objectives are to analyze the effect of seat suspension on vehicle performance for a given road input using state space equations in MATLAB and to determine which MathWorks products provide better or easier to work with results for modeling lumped parameter systems like suspensions. Key topics covered include the abstract, objectives, an overview of suspension systems, why MATLAB is used, the mathematical formulation, solution method, and conclusions.

Abstract:-
 In this current work the ride and handling performance
of an automobile with passive suspension system is
simulated and analyzed.
 The suspension system model considered here as a two
degree of freedom quarter car model.
 The suspension system designed here is totally designed
and analyzed separately using Math Works products
namely MATLAB, Simulink and Simscape and tries to
draw conclusion on which of these Math Works
products provides better results and which product is
easy to work with, in relation lumped parameter models
in this case suspension system.
Objective:-

• The work presented here tries to analyze the effect

of seat suspension on vehicle performance of a
quarter car model for a given road input using
different approaches namely analysis by using state
space equations in MATLAB
Suspension system:-

What is a suspension system???

 Suspension is the word given to the springs, shock
absorbers  and linkages that connects a vehicle   to
its wheels.
Why suspension system???

 The purpose of the suspension system in

automobiles is to improve ride comfort and road
handling.
 This system is used for safety and comfort driving.
The vehicle occupants will be isolated from road
noise, bumps and vibrations etc.
 The important mechanism of suspension is to keep
the road wheel in contact with the road surface
 This system also increases the friction and stability
between tires and the road surface.
Principle of Suspension System:-
 To prevent road vibrations which being transmitted to
the various components of the vehicle.
 To safeguard and protect the passengers from road
shocks
 To maintain proper stability of the vehicle during
pitching and rolling, while the vehicle is in motion.
Why MATLAB ???
MAT LAB : Matrix Laboratory

 User Friendly (GUI)

 Easy to work with

 Powerful tools for complex mathematics

USES:-

 The MATLAB high-performance language for technical

computing integrates computation, visualization, and
programming in an easy-to-use environment where
problems and solutions are expressed in familiar
mathematical notation.
 Its very economical to use MATLAB for simulating the
results before going directly into the development of the
product
