Case Study: Architectural Design Iv 5 Semester BATCH 2018

The document presents a case study for the design of a 150-bed multi-specialty hospital in Nashik, India by architectural firm HKS. The hospital uses a modular design approach with 24-bed inpatient towers as the core and modular pods that can be rearranged to meet site constraints and community needs. The design allows for simplified and accelerated construction of new hospitals, expanding healthcare access. Key aspects of the design include emergency services, ICU beds, diagnostic services and departments for cardiology, neurology and other specialties.

CLIMATE DESIGN IDEOLOGY
1. The Challenge

• Apollo Hospitals, one of the largest health care systems in Asia, asked HKS to
design a modular building system for use on building sites in semi-urban and rural
settings.

2. The Design Solution

• HKS’ design uses 24-bed inpatient towers as the building’s core element with
modular pods that house different services.
• When applying this building’s design in other locations, these pods can be
rearranged to meet the site’s constraints and the needs of the community.
• The 120,000-square-foot, 100-bed Apollo Reach Hospital in Nashik makes use of
this concept by vertically stacking pods to meet the requirements of a smaller
footprint.

3. The Design Impact

• By creating a modular building system, the design, development and construction

• The Nashik lies on 577m above sea of new Apollo hospitals is simplified and accelerated, allowing the system to
level Nashik's climate is classified as expand quality health care to underserved communities in India faster.
tropical.
• The summers are much rainier than the
winters in Nashik. 4. Project Features
• The climate is classified as Aw. In
Nashik, the average annual • 24-bed inpatient tower units • General surgery • Neurology
temperature is 24.7 °C | 76.4 °F. About • Orthopedics • Neonatal ICU
