Description Applied To Contemporary ART: Lesson 5

This lesson teaches how to describe contemporary artworks using three key elements: subject matter, materials, and art elements/principles. Subject matter refers to what is depicted, which for the sample sculpture Balloons by Michael Cacnio includes two attached figures - a female pulled upward by balloons and a male holding her foot. The materials used are brass, which allows for precision details. Art elements on display include balance, repetition of forms, and a floating effect created through the figures' poses and use of space.
