MODULE 3B: LEARNING RESOURCES
Lesson 1: Learning Resource Maps for Distance Learning
ACTIVITY 1
The DepEd Memorandum on Suggested Strategies in Implementing LDMs for SY 2020-
2021 included the Learning Resources (LR) Map as a guide in selecting the appropriate
Distance LDM to be implemented in Schools/Divisions. Study this map and answer the
following questions:

1. Based on the map, what resources should you have to implement the LDM adopted by your
School/Division?
For Online distance learning, we have the online SLM and activities/exercises; offline
digital SLM and activity sheets; printed SLM and activity sheets. For Modular Distance
Learning we have the printed SLM or Modules.
2. Do you have the complete resources for the Distance LDM needed in class? If the LRs are not
complete or not available, what steps will you take to make these available? What are your options to
substitute these missing LRs?
We are still on the process of completing the Textbooks (Modules), Students Activity
Learning Sheets, as well as other teacher self-made modules. These can be a good
substitute for the missing LR’s.

MODULE 3B: LEARNING RESOURCES
Lesson 1: Learning Resource Maps for Distance Learning
3. What support will you need to maximize the use of the two DepEd-sanctioned LR Portals? From
whom can you get this support?
Internet access for the learners; ample support from the government and stakeholders. It
would also help if we could have the updated LR’s, more webinars and workshop on the
proper use of google classroom, google meet and creation of google documents are provided
before the start of the classes. LRMDS and DEPED Commons Portals can be maximized in
case LR’s are not enough.

4. Based on your evaluation of the materials, are they appropriate to the level and characteristics of
learners? Are there learners who might be disadvantaged by the materials (based on reading ability,
level of learning independence, level of household support, distance)? What adjustments will you
make in terms of the LRs?
Yes, I think the LRMs are appropriate to the level and characteristics of the learners,
aligned to MELCs, evaluated by MT and qualified evaluators in their specific areas of
expertise. We know that there are differentiated learning suitable to the needs of each
learner. Yes, and we may provide them supplementary materials such as video, additional
activities and other LM available.
MODULE 3B: LEARNING RESOURCES
Lesson 1: Learning Resource Maps for Distance Learning
ACTIVITY 2
In your LAC Session, share and discuss your answers from the previous activity. What
support can you provide to your colleagues and what support can you get from them in terms
of LRs? Take note of the insights that you can gather from your colleagues and write them in
your Study Notebook.
During the LAC session conducted, teachers were very eager to learn something new in
this new normal set-up, we exchanged thoughts and ideas on how we can contribute to the
learning process. In terms of LRs, insightful ideas were presented, though not all our
teachers are computer literate, we will be working on how we can be able to share our skills
to them such as how to download online resources from DepEd portals like the LMRDS,
DEPED Commons and other useful websites and mathematics links.
Be passionate about exploring new ideas and have an open mind for comments from
peers for improvements in the education system.
MODULE 3B: LEARNING RESOURCES
Lesson 2: Accessing Learning Resources from DEPED Portals
ACTIVITY 1
Establish access to the following portals:
 1. LRMDS Portal.
Ensure that you have an LRMDS Portal Account. If you have not registered yet, follow the LR Portal
User Guide to guide you in your registration process. Alternatively, seek assistance from any of your
colleagues or your IT personnel in your school, district, or division. You may also coordinate with your
LAC Leader and/or Coach.

To understand the portal better,

you may watch the LR Portal Video
Tutorial located in the resources of
this Course.
MODULE 3B: LEARNING RESOURCES
Lesson 2: Accessing Learning Resources from DEPED Portals
2. DepEd Commons. Ensure that you have access to DepEd Commons. Refer to
Memorandum on DepEd Commons dated March 17, 2020.

MODULE 3B: LEARNING RESOURCES
Lesson 2: Accessing Learning Resources from DEPED Portals

Explore the Portals and answer the following questions:

1. Given the LDM adopted in your School, how can the two DepEd portals respond to your LR needs
and those of your learners’? How do they complement the LRs that you already have?
The Learning Development Material adopted by our school are Online Distance Learning and
Modular Distance Learning. The two DepEd portals are designed to support increased distribution
and access to learning, teaching, and professional development. They also serve as a quality
assurance system, providing support in the selection and acquisition of teacher-made resources in
response to identified local educational needs.

2. What are the challenges in accessing the LRs in the portals both for you and your learners?
How will you overcome these challenges?
Since the Learning Resource portals are both accessible through the Internet, one of the
challenges, both for teachers and learners, is the cost for a stable Internet provider. It will
be of great help for the learners if the teacher can provide a printed copy of these
materials necessary for learning.

MODULE 3B: LEARNING RESOURCES
Lesson 2: Accessing Learning Resources from DEPED Portals

3. What support will you need to be able to maximize the use of the LR Portals? From whom
can you get this support?

To fully access the two DepEd-sanctioned LR portals, we need to have a curriculum

support system from the department, from our LGUs and private individuals who are willing
to extend support to provide learning materials to our learners. It is beneficial to request
support from the School ICT Coordinator and technology-wise teachers.
We are fortunate enough to have an ICT Coordinator who is always willing to lend a
helping hand whenever we needed help in accessing DEPED portals. Aside from this,
our teachers collaborate and help one another in order to ensure that everyone can comply
with what is needed to be done.

3. What support will you need to be able to maximize the use of the LR Portals? From whom can you get
this support?
To fully access the two DepEd-sanctioned LR portals, we need to have a curriculum support
system from the department, from our LGUs and private individuals who are willing to extend support to
provide learning materials to our learners. It is beneficial to request support from the School ICT
Coordinator and technology-wise teachers.

ACTIVITY 2
 In your next LAC Session, share and discuss your answers to the questions in Activity 1.
Explore how you can help and support each other in using the LR portals. Jot down the insights and
helpful information regarding the use of the LR portals in your Study Notebook.
After sharing, we found out that are still some teachers who need assistance in dealing with
computers as part of the new normal system of education. Still we must give them time to practice and let
us partake in teaching them even with the basic skills. We can teach the seasoned teachers to access the
LR portals and teach them to reset their password if they cannot access the portals. Give insightful ideas
about the online resources to be downloaded. Do not hesitate to collaborate with your colleagues and ask
to provide information about the portals.
MODULE 3B: LEARNING RESOURCES
Lesson 3: ASSESSING THE LR MATERIALS
ACTIVITY 1
Study the LR Rapid Assessment Tool. Download an LR from either DepEd Commons or LRMDS Portal and
assess the material using the tool. Answer the following questions in your Study Notebook:

MODULE 3B: LEARNING RESOURCES
Lesson 3: ASSESSING THE LR MATERIALS
2. Were there any questions in the assessment tool where you answered “No” or “Cannot
Be Determined”? What decision will you make on the LR material? Why?
None. I will use these materials as a supplementary material for my class on top of
the already prepared Self Learning Materials.
3. Are there other aspects of the material not covered by the tool but still need to be
assessed? Specify which aspect/s.
The only thing that we need to consider here is the localization and ingenuity of the
Learning Materials.

4. How does this exercise help you in picking the right and appropriate LRs for your
lesson and your learners?
The pictures and exercises enabled me to carefully evaluate most of the learning
materials from the LRMDS Portal and to find suitable resources for a more organized
teaching-learning process. This assessment tool was a great help for us teachers in
choosing the best LR for our subject matter. It taught us to consider first all the
requirements needed in obtaining our desired Learner’s Resource.
MODULE 3B: LEARNING RESOURCES
Lesson 3: ASSESSING THE LR MATERIALS
ACTIVITY 2
Explore other non-DepEd LR portals/platforms you can find online. Take note of the portals in
your Study Notebook. Download at least one LR from each portal. Assess the materials using the
same tool and answer the following questions in your Study Notebook:

1. Based on the Assessment Tool, how does the material from a non-DepEd Portal compare with
the LR from the DepEd Portal?
RAPID ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING RESOURCES
(Non DepEd LR portals/platforms)
Based on the results of Rapid Assessment Tool, some of the materials in the non-DepEd Portal
do not conform with competencies set by the department but it can be used as intervention materials.
Deped prescribe LRs are reliable and aligned in the basic requirement needed for choosing LR's while
non Deped LR's sometimes deviate from the requirements of standard LR’s.

2. Based on the results of the Assessment Tool, what improvements do the materials — both from
DepEd and Non-DepEd portals — still need?
Yes, they are comparatively ok, in terms of the approach in presenting the topics but they could
still be modified to conform to the existing needs of the teacher and learner. The various activities
were also useful and is an excellent Learning Resource. However, change is inevitable, as we are
confronted by changes brought about by the new normal in education, teachers are challenged to be
more creative in their teaching styles and not to simply rely on the LR’s. The different activities
should be competency-based and eye catching like a Video or Slide presentation.
MODULE 3B: LEARNING RESOURCES
Lesson 3: ASSESSING THE LR MATERIALS
Based on the results of Rapid Assessment Tool, some of the materials in the non-DepEd Portal do not
conform with competencies set by the department but it can also be used as a good intervention
material. (from Non DEPED Math 10 Learner’s Material)

MODULE 3B: LEARNING RESOURCES
Lesson 3: ASSESSING THE LR MATERIALS
3. How does this exercise help you in picking the right and appropriate LRs for your lesson and your
learners?

The exercise and assessment tool presented to us gave us a good idea on how to choose the
better Learning Resources for our subject matter. These materials downloaded from non-DepEd portals
can certainly be used as an intervention material in order to help increase mastery level of the
learners. At any rate, we could not totally blame the creators of the LR’s of Non-Deped portals as they
may have been working on these sites prior to the release of the implementing guidelines of the new
MELCs. As such, they have fallen short of the competencies set forth by DEPED.

ACTIVITY 3
Choose one of the LR materials that you have developed. Assess this material using the same
tool. Answer the following questions in Your Study Notebook:

1. How does your material compare with the ones that are obtained from the online portals?
The Self-Learning Materials that we have developed are designed for learners with relevant and
localized content. Just like the resources found in the different learning portals, this SLM can be used
by Grade 10 learners that is suitable to their learning needs.

Reflection Questions:
1. How does your material compare with the ones that are obtained from the online
portals?
The material that I made was developed based on the needs of my school and my
students. I am aware of their intellectual capacities, nature, and behavior so I am sure
that I can meet all the requirements.

2. What improvements do you still need to make in your developed material?

I think I still need to improve on my creativity in terms of the layout of the material, the
activities that are presented and the design of these materials.

Lesson 3: ASSESSING THE LR MATERIALS
ACTIVITY 4
Share and discuss your answers to the questions in Activities 1, 2, and 3 in your
next LAC Session. Jot down insights and information that can be useful to you in
choosing the appropriate LRs. Submit your LR assessments with your reflection on
the exercises to your LAC Leader. Ensure that you keep a copy for yourself.

During this time in the new normal in education, it is a must for us teachers to have access to
learning portals like DepEd Commons and LRMDS Portal so that we can find online resources
suitable to the needs of our learners. We must also learn some considerations in selecting
appropriate learning resources, it is indeed essential for teachers to conduct a review process on
its content to provide a clearer and significant learning experience.

It is also necessary to consider the following criteria: The LRs must be appropriate for the
subject area and for the age, ability level, learning styles, and social development of the
students. It must encourage students to question, think, react, reflect, and decide in ways that
develop critical-thinking and decision-making skills It must also offer choices and flexibility, as
appropriate, to meet needs related to individual aptitudes, abilities, learning styles, multiple
intelligences, and interests. Provide for both formative and summative assessment or evaluation
as appropriate and relevant to the needs of the student. Reflect sensitivity to gender and sexual
orientation.

These are Number 2: Easy to reproduce and number 5: Culture and Gender-Fair. Let us
try to modify the LR to conform to these 2 standards.
3. Were there any other aspects of the material not covered by the tool but still need to be
assessed? Specify which aspect/s.
The only thing that we need to consider here is the localization and ingenuity of the Learning
Materials.
4. How does this exercise help you in picking the right and appropriate LRs for your lesson
and your learners?
The exercise gave us a comparative point of view of the LR’s being used by the different
sectors (DEPED/non-DEPED) of our Educational System.
