230L1E191 - Distributed Control Unit (DCU)

The document describes the evolution of Distributed Control Units (DCUs) introduced by Schlumberger in the 1990s. It discusses three generations of DCUs - DCU I (DIP360), DCU II (CSD363), and DCU III (CSD364). The DCUs replaced older remote data acquisition devices and added distributed control capabilities for various downhole equipment. Each new generation provided additional functionality while maintaining footprint and connector compatibility with previous versions for ease of use.

 8 Analog inputs.
– Voltage 0-10VDC
– Current 0-20mA (Jumpers are required to activate 500 current loop resistor)
• Load resistor 500converts 0-20mA to 0-10V
• ie:

Schlumberger Private
– 4mA @ 500  V = 4 x 10-3 x 500 = 2V
– 20mA @ 500  V = 20 x 10-3 x 500 = 10V

Frequency (P4) / Digital (P10)

 8 Frequency inputs.
– Pulse 0-20kHz
– Current 4-8mA (Jumpers are required to limit current)
• Current limiting resistors convert 5, 12 & 24V pulses to 5mA
• ie:
– 5V @ 1k  I = 5 / 1000 = 5mA
– 12V @ 2.4k  12 / 2400 = 5mA
– 24V @ 4.8 k  24 / 4800 = 5mA

 2 Digital inputs.

Control Jumpers

Control Jumpers
 JP1
– JP1 is the BootStrap Jumper, when installed the MicroProccessor expects
the startup commands from the serial communication port. This jumper
is used to load firmware into memory.
 Unit Type JP2 (RDA S), JP3 (RDA R), JP4 (JAB II) and JP5 (DCU)

Schlumberger Private
– Unit type jumpers are used by the firmware to indicate which sub-
routines of the control program needs to be executed. (See firmware for
function)
 Memory selection (JP36 and JP37)
– Memory selector jumpers are used to select Memory (JP36 Flash, JP37
RAM)
 JP34 DOUBLER (DCU I only)
– JP34 is used on the DCU I in combination with the unit type jumpers.
(See firmware for function)
