Project Objectives The project development objective (PDO) is to strengthen the Sindh
Irrigation Department’s capacity to effectively rehabilitate, operate, and
manage the Sukkur Barrage.
 
 
SUKKUR BARRAGE
The Lifeline for Sindh Province
• Agricultural Dependency of Sindh
– With Command Area of about 8 million acres (3.2 million hectares),
about 80% of agricultural land in Sindh depends on Sukkur Barrage.
– About 50% of the population of Sindh
(25 million out of 50 million) earns its
lively hood, in one way or the other,
through Sukkur Barrage.

Main Issues of the Barrage
