▪In London suburban houses are largely built with bricks and that geared
him towards using bricks as a basic material for the indivisual houses.
▪Also he uses brick , exposed concrete roof slab ,kota stone flooring and
teak wood doors and windows for indivisual houses.
▪For mass scale housing that he begun to use stone aggregate as a
rendering material.
▪While designing institutional building .he began to use stone as a
cladding material.

• In the Asian Games housing ,the urban pattern of Jaipur and Jaiselmer has
been explored.
•The architect interwove three principle dictates that simultaneously
conjoined traditional layouts with a contemporary response.
1. Configuring a low rise
2. High density development representative of the typical Indian ‘mohalla’
or community.
3. Creating cluster formations ideal for the Indian climate .
•He was influence by jaisalmer.
•The Settlement pattern , narrow streets ,built in
response to hot summer days, mild evening and
sunny winters.

Designing features-

▪The cubic solids and voids are characteristic
of the Indian urban fabric
▪A cluster in Asian games village –the basic unit of four apartments is
designed in such a way that it can be linked with a Courtyard in
Between to create a variety of interlinking spaces.
▪The Terraces formed on the upper Floors provide for a semi-
private space .
BASIC UNIT BLOCK-
▪In places they added circular spaces to
grow trees and discourage vehicular
traffic
▪They raised green spaces 18 inches
above ground level to discourage people
from riding or walking on the grass

then 6 or 7 fet wide
PARLIAMENT LIBRARY
parliament library-

⮚ main idea : the design for the existing
parliament follows the "beaux arts", it is
circular in plan with three axes culminating in a
central dome.
Introduction-
• Symbolically a house of knowledge,
the Parliament Library has its site next to the Parliament House in Lutyens
Delhi.
Both visually and symbolically, the central hall of the existing Parliament
denotes power.
The site measures 10 acres with a built-up area of 50,000 sqm.
• The design for the existing Parliament follows the "Beaux Arts", the central
line axis planning criteria.
It is circular in plan with three axes culminating in a central dome.
• Courtyards form an important feature of the design vocabulary, keeping in
mind Delhi's extreme climate. They help in creating a dust free atmosphere
and in reducing the summer heat.
•the exterior walls of the library are clad in the same red and beige
sandstone as that used in the Parliament building.

by precolonial indian architecture
such as the magnificent taj mahal,
with its square base and symmetrical
composition

•Also inspired by Adinatha Temple at


Ranakpur in western India.
