What I Have Learned
1. Mixtures can be separated using such methods
as decantation, evaporation, filtration, sieving and
using magnet.
2. Decantation is done to separate particulates
from a liquid by allowing the solids to settle to the
bottom of the mixture and pouring off the particle-
free part of the liquid.
3. Evaporation is applying heat to cause the liquid
in a mixture to evaporate leaving the other
component/substance behind.
4. Filtration is done by passing a suspension
through a filter paper that retains the solid
components of the mixture.
5. Sieving is a method in which two or more
components of different sizes are separated from
a mixture on the basis of the difference in their
sizes.
6. Mechanical separation involves the use of tools
such as magnets, forceps and sieves to separate
solids that are mixed together.
