Audio-visuals are instructional materials that use both sound and visuals to engage students. They motivate students, capture their attention, reinforce learning, and increase understanding and retention. Audio-visuals provide experiences and examples that help conceptual learning. While they require resources and expertise, audio-visuals make learning more effective and permanent. Digital media like lecture recordings, YouTube videos, and social media are now commonly used audio-visual tools that engage students in the classroom.

VISUALS WHAT ARE AUDIO – VISUALS?
•Audio-visuals (AV) is a mode of materials
for instruction which is described by the delivery and the use of instructional content that involves sound (auditory stimuli) and sight (visual stimuli). PURPOSE OF AUDIO – VISUALS • Best motivation. • Clear image. • Save energy and time. • Antidote of the disease of verbal instructions. • Capture attention. • Reinforcement to learner. • Positive transfer of learning. • Gain & hold student interest. • Increase understanding and retention. • Stimulate the development of understanding and attitudes NEED FOR AUDIO - VISUALS 1) Every individual has the tendency to forget. Proper use of teaching aids helps to retain more concept permanently. 2) Students can learn better when they are motivated properly through different teaching aids. 3) Audio – visuals develop the proper image when the students see, hear, taste and smell properly. 4) Audio – visuals provide complete example for conceptual thinking. 5) Audio – visuals create the environment of interest for the students. 6) Audio – visuals help to increase the vocabulary of the students. 7) Audio – visuals help the teacher to get sometime and make learning permanent. 8) Audio – visuals provide direct experience to the students. THE ROLE OF AUDIO - VISUALS IN EDUCATION • Students will gain knowledge of the latest in evolving theoretical and practical application in the communication field utilizing various resources and methods of inquiry. • Students will grow intellectually in their oral and written communication and critical thinking skills. • Student will become aware of the ethical and spiritual implications of communication on a diverse and global level. FUNCTIONS OF AUDIO - VISUALS • They supply a concrete basis for conceptual thinking and hence, reduce meaningless word response of students. • They have high degree of interest for students. • They make learning more permanent. • They offer a reality of experience which stimulate self activity on the part of pupil. • Develop continuity of thougth; this is especially true of motion pictures. • They provide experience not easily obtained through other materials and contribute to the efficiency, depth and variety of learning LIMITATIONS OF USING AUDIO – VISUALS
• Decreases teacher’s autonomy in the classroom
• For effective functioning of the audio-visual aids the trained experts are required which is not possible all the time ADVANTAGES OF AUDIO - VISUALS 1. Help to make the learning process more effective and conceptual. 2. Help to grab the attention of targeted audience. 3. Build interest and motivation. 4. Enhance the energy level of teaching. 5. Provide a realistic approach and experience 6. Easy to follow 7. Learners feel more engaged 8. Easier to explain or put things in perspective 9. Easier to remember 10. Helps keep mistakes at a minimum DISADVANTAGES OF USING AUDIO - VISUALS 1. Technical problems 2. Expensive 3. Time-consuming 4. Need space 5. It is easier to lose focus 6. Requires a well designed presentation or material 7. Participants might pay more attention to the graphics than the audio DIGITAL MEDIA •Digital media is any form of media that uses electronic devices for distribution. This form of media can be created, viewed, modified and distributed via electronic devices. •Examples of digital media include software, digital images, digital video, video games, web pages and websites, social media, digital data and databases, digital audio such as MP3, electronic documents and electronic books. LECTURE RECORDING •A lecture recording provides an audio and visual record which students can repeat as many times as they need. Any part of a lecture can be found easily and played back. BENEFITS OF LECTURE It’sRECORDING ideal for distance learning students, part-time students and international students All undergraduates and post-graduates with access to recorded lectures like to be able to revisit or catch up on lectures Increase student perception of support Viewing recorded material provides more opportunities for interaction during class time DISADVANTAGES OF LECTURE RECORDING Staffs’ confidence and worries about being recorded Some may say that the technology is limiting Infrastructure issues to meet rising acceptance TV CLIPS/YOU TUBE Videos must be used as a facet of instruction along with other resource material available to you for teaching a particular topic. ADVANTAGES OF TV CLIPS/YOU TUBE It gives students concept clarity, as everything can be visualized and explained in detail. Visuals tend to be more interesting and engaging, when compared to text. Students who are good visual learners have a lot of advantages studying from videos. They can learn more efficiently. It helps retain and maintain interest for longer periods of time. It provides an innovative and effective means for educators to address and deliver the required curriculum content. Videos are mostly very demonstration-friendly. Videos create experiences. It acts as a flexible teaching medium. It gives instant notes. DISADVANTAGES OF TV CLIPS/YOU TUBE Playing video can use a lot of the bandwidth and may take time to load. The video could be a distraction if the structure of the video is not aligned to what needs to be taught. It is hard and time consuming to find quality videos. TAKE - AWAY • The importance of audio visuals (AV) in education should not be underestimated. There are two reasons for this; one, learning via AV creates a stimulating and interactive environment which is more conducive to learning; two, we live in an audio-visual age which means that having the skills to use AV equipment is integral to future employment prospects. Therefore exposure to AV technology in education is imperative. Thank You!
