The document discusses harmonic reduction using transformer connection. Harmonics are voltages or currents at multiples of the fundamental frequency that distort voltage waveforms. Connecting two inverters with phase-shifted outputs to the primary windings of series-connected transformers can eliminate the 3rd harmonic from the combined output voltage waveform. This technique reduces harmonics without requiring additional hardware beyond two inverters and transformers.

REFREANCE HARMONIC
Introduction
Harmonics:

 We define harmonics as
voltages or currents at
frequencies that are a
multiple of the
fundamental frequency.
 The biggest problem
with harmonics is
voltage waveform
distortion.
Harmonics

f(x) = sin(x) sin(5x)

f(x) = 5
The resulting wave shows a strong departure from the smooth
waves comprising it:

= f(x) = sin(x) + sin(5x)

Harmonics in inverter
 There are several industrial applications which may
allow a harmonic of 5%of its fundamental component of
input voltage when inverters are used.
 The inverter output voltage may have harmonic content
much higher then 5% of its fundamental component.
 Several methods available for reduction of harmonics in
output voltage of inverter.
Harmonic reduction using Transformer
connection

 Conditions for use this method

 Two or more inverters are required
 Inverters outputs must be phase shifted.

 With the help of this method we can reduce 3rd harmonic

 So, multiple of 3rd harmonics 9,15,…… also removed.

Harmonic reduction using
transformer connection
Conti….
 The second inverter output is П/3 radians phase shifted then
inverter one output.
 The resultant output voltage is obtained by adding vertical
ordinates of V01 And V02.
 According to shown in figur7e two inverters are connected at
two primary windings of two transformers and both
transformers are series connected.
Conti…..
 The Fourier analysis of V01 and V02 gives

 V01=A1sin(x)+A3sin(3x)+A5sin(x)+A7sin(x)……
V02=A1sin(X- П/3 )+A3sin3(X- П/3 )
+A5sin5(X- П/3)+A7sin5(X- П/3)…….
 The resultant voltage V=V01+V02,
V=A1sin(X- П/6 )+A5sin5(X- П/6)+A7sin5(X- П/6)
…….
Conti…

V=A1sin(X- П/6 )+A5sin5(X- П/6)+A7sin5(X- П/6)

…….
We can see the resultant voltage does not have 3

multiplication term.So,3rd harmonics is eliminated and

also the multiple of 3 are eliminated like 9,15,..
Harmonic reduced output obtain only if the output of
inverter 2 is phase shifted then output of inverter 1.

ADVANTAGE

 A harmonic analyser is a device which is used to

measure frequencies, amplitudes, different phases.
 It mainly consists of multipliers, an input device, and
integrators.
 Using a harmonic analyser, industries can significantly
improve their energy efficiency by adopting all possible
measures.
Disadvantages

1. Two or more transformers are required.

2. Transformers of similar rating required.
