Power Stations and Substations Load Curves, Load Factor and Demand Factor

This document discusses load curves and factors used to analyze power demand and generation. It defines key concepts like connected load, peak load, base load, and average energy consumption that are used to calculate load curves. Load curves are important for sizing new power plants and upgrading existing ones. They also allow calculation of load factors and demand factors to evaluate the economic efficiency of power generation. The document provides reference materials for mathematical problems related to load curve analysis.

Load Curve Analysis

 Used for the calculation of Load demand at the

Consumer / Load side and from the values of Load
demand we can analyze the supplier side
performance characteristics through different
Factors.
 Can calculate the station /supplier/generation side
ratings .
 Very important before the design of a new power
plant or the extension of an existing power plant
Basic Concepts:
 Connected Load Demand in Watts
 Peak Load demand in Watts
 Base Load Demand in Watts
 Amount of energy generated or
units generated by a station is in
kwH not Watts
 Average energy consumption for a
particular period of time can be
calculated for LOAD curve.
Basic Concepts:
 Connected Load may be of different
groups like in this example
 If all the different types of loads are
connected to a single Feeder
transformer/ generating station then
there will be ONE LOAD CURVE not
multiple ones.
 Diversity factor arises due to different
types of loads with different power
consumption pattern
Summarization of Load Factor
