This document discusses computer accessories and functions. It defines accessories as peripheral devices that are connected externally to perform specific functions. Input devices like keyboards, mice, scanners, and microphones accept data. Output devices like monitors, printers, and speakers return processed data. The central processing unit controls internal and external devices. Storage devices hold data, with primary storage holding data when the computer is on and secondary storage holding data when it is off. In conclusion, input devices accept data, output devices return results, and storage devices hold data.

By the end of this session you are expected to be able to: Describe accessories of the computer Explain functions of computer parts and accessories
Accessories of the Computer
Computer accessories can also be termed as computer peripheral devices. Peripheral devices are connected to the computer externally. These devices are used for performing some specific functions. Peripheral devices are as follows: Input devices Output devices
Input devices: Accept data and instructions from the user.
There are many input devices these are some
of them; Keyboard, Mouse, Scanner, and Microphone for voice as input.
Keyboard • Is the most common input device. • It used to type in data into a computer • Several kinds of keyboards are available, but they resemble each other with minor variations. • Generally standard keyboard has 104 keys. Keyboard Mouse
Is an electro-mechanical, hand-held device.
• It is used as a pointer. • It has two buttons left and right button and a wheel in between the buttons
• It can perform functions like selecting menu
commands, moving icons, resizing windows, starting programs, and choosing options. Mouse Scanner • Is used for automatic data collection.
• Is an input device which works more like a
photocopy machine
• An image scanner translates printed images
into an electronic format that can be stored in a computer’s memory, and with the right kind of software, one can alter a stored image. Scanner Microphone
• Is an input device, which takes voice as input,
then stores it in digital form • Computer can have inbuilt microphone • It is used for adding sound to multimedia presentation or for mixing music Microphone Output devices:
Return processed data that is information, back
to the user There are many output devices, some of them are; Monitor (Visual Display Unit), Printers and Speakers
Monitor • Is the most important output device because people interact with this device most intensively than others. • Computer information is displayed, visually with a monitor. Printer
• Printer is an output device which is used to print
information on paper • After a document is created on the computer, it can be sent to a printer for a hard copy (printout). • There are many types of printers which are used which different functions and character • It offers special features such as colored and large page formats.
Printer Speakers • Enable to listen to voice like music, and conversation with people.
Functions of Computer Parts and Accessories The following are the functions of computer parts and accessories: • Input devices: function by accepting raw data and information • Output devices: used to give the results of the processed data or information • Processor/Central Processing Unit: control all internal and external devices of the computer Functions of Computer Parts and Accessories … • Storage device: they are used to hold data in the computer. • Primary storage device used to hold data even when the computer is turned on. • RAM (Random Access Memory/Read-Write Memory) • ROM (Read-only-memory) Functions of Computer Parts and Accessories … Secondary storage device they are used to hold data even when the computer is turned off. Examples of secondary storage devices are: • Hard Disk (Local Disk) • Optical Disks: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW • Pen Drive • Floppy Disks • Memory Cards • External Hard Disk Key Points • Computer accessories can also be termed as computer peripheral devices. • Computer parts include input devices, output devices, Central Processing Unit, and storage devices. • Input devices function by accepting raw data and information Key Points.. • Output devices used to give the results of the processed data or information • Central Processing Unit control all internal and external devices of the computer • Storage devices are used to hold data in the computer Evaluation • What are the computer accessories? • What are the functions of computer parts? • What are the functions of computer accessories?
