Cat Global Mining Product Support will deliver globally consistent, site-specific support solutions that
lower cost per ton, improve availability and deliver productivity to assure customer preference for
Caterpillar mining products and services.

Definition
While Best Practice is a widely used term, there is some confusion on what
a Best Practice is or does.

Best Practices are: Processes or


methodologies that provide outstanding results
that can be replicated or adapted at another
location and provide similar results.

CGM Best Practices fall into 3 categories:

1. Tactical – Activity that makes job more efficient


2. Strategic – Fundamental Process that Drives
Global Consistency
3. Quick-Wins- Process or tool that requires little
capital investment and easy to implement

or more of the performance results in
terms of improved efficiency, revenue,
service, quality, reliability, & safety or
reduced cost(s), ….not the result itself,
but the means to achieve the result.

• Measurable impact on a performance


result.

• Must be cost effective. The benefit


must exceed the cost to perform the
practice.

• Must be replicable to other


organizations.

• Not a common knowledge practice.


Special and beyond the ordinary. If
practice is widely known, it is a common
practice.

A Best Practice program includes several
ingredients which all must be mixed
together in order to realize a successful

works to analyze your business and
identify the outstanding processes, both
good and bad.

2. Sharing
Communicating your superior processes
for replication both within your dealer and

network.
