Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute

Technology,Delhi in 1968.

Diploma from Harvard Business
School,Massachusetts & did a course on
advanced training in hoteliering & services
from Cornell University in United States.
CAREER

o Y C Deveshwar joined ITC Limited in 1968 as a management pupil.


o He also worked as an MBO advisor and factory manager after which he became
a Director in 1996 and has been serving as the Chief Executive and the Chairman
of ITC Limited ever since.
o He has been the head of ITC’s affairs for about fifteen years and is the longest
serving chairman in the history of the organization.
o He also worked as Chairman and Managing director of Air India in 1991 and was
also board member of Indian Airlines, International Airports Authority of India,
and Air Mauritius Limited.
o He is also a member of board of Governors of IIM and Indian School of Business.
o In 2011, His salary was estimated to be around 26 lakhs (2.6 million) per month
which is nearly triple the second highest salary in his company.

➢ ITC was incorporated on August 24, 1910 under the
name Imperial Tobacco Company of India Limited. As the
Company gradually expanded its operations, the name of the
Company was changed to ITC Limited in 2001.

➢ Although the company primarily used to deal with cigarettes,


it later expanded its business among various sectors.
➢ After Y.C Deveshwar took over, ITC transformed from 5,000
crore company to 27,000 crore

Growth Of ITC Under Y.C.D
✓ Under the leadership of Y.C.D ,The efforts of ITC’s sustainability took
new shape due to the innovative business model introduced by him.

✓ When he took charge as ITC chairman in January 1996, gross


revenue was less than Rs 5,200 crore. That has grown 10-fold to Rs
51,582 crore.

✓ ITC become the 1st indian organisation to submit its sustainability


report as per the guidelines of the Global Reporting initiative.

✓ ITC won the 'World Business Award' given jointly by the United
Nations Development Program (UNDP), International Chamber of
Commerce (ICC) and International Business Leader's Forum (IBLF).

Y.C.D encouraged philanthropy in india in the name of Corporate
social responsibility.Under him,ITC Limited took up various
environmental initiatives and became the only company in the
world to be Carbon Positive, Water positive and solid waste
recycling positive.

• Generating livelihood for over 5 million people
• E-Choupal benefits to over 4 million farmers
• Watershed development programme bringing water to
water stressed areas
