BAHAG-HARI
FESTIVAL
Bahag-hari Festival is a colorful celebration highlighted by
street dancing, a parade of colorful floats, and a different kind of
Moriones Festival. As indicated by an old story, the early pioneers
of Pinamalayan originated from Marinduque. While on their
approach to Mindoro utilizing their pontoons,
BANANA FESTIVAL
Banana Festival, held each March 18 to 19 in Baco,
Oriental Mindoro, is a festival of the wealth of bananas. It
features the distinctive assortments of banana like the
Senorita, the Latundan, the Lacatan and the Saba.
ARAWATAN FESTIVAL
ARAWATAN” is a native term among the Mangyan that connotes “unity”,
“cooperation” and “helping each other”. This is an annual historic event in Occidental
Mindoro where the people of this province of various religious congregations, beliefs, and
political differences, varying ethnically & indigenous people, customs and traits are
strongly “unified.” Each year, the people of Occidental Mindoro, the students,
professionals, businessmen, government officials, together with the rural folks and
indigenous people participate in the activities.
SAKNUNGAN FESTIVAL
San Jose, Occidental Mindoro Incorporating the exhibition of the
cultural heritage of Mindoro’s ethnic communities is the Saknungan
Festival, held every fourth week of April in San Jose, Mindoro
Occidental. The festival commences with the annual celebration of
the blessings of the province. Saknungan, a Mangyan word is literally
meant bayanihan, the spirit of cooperation and unity at work, which
is practiced by the people of Mindoro in their everyday activities,
especially during the planting and harvesting season of the palay, the
major agricultural product of Occidental Mindoro.
SULYOG FESTIVAL
Sulyog Festival is the official entry of the Municipality of
Bongabong in Mahalta pyesta. Coined from the MAngyan word
"SULI" which means banana and Tagalog word "Niyog" which
means coconut. These commodities were the primary crops of
the town. This culture is a festive celebration for a bountiful
harvest and thanksgiving to their Patron Saint Saint Joseph.
