• Level 5 CIPD Intermediate Diploma (University Certificate) – you gain Associate membership
• Level 7 CIPD Advanced Diploma (University PGDip) – you gain Associate membership and the
knowledge requirements to up-grade to Chartered Member
Student Fees for CIPD: Joining fee £40 + Membership fee £98 (until June 2020) = £138
We invite the local CIPD branch membership co-ordinator to support you in up-grading for Chartered
Membership
Annual fee circa thereafter is Associate £163 and Chartered Member £190 (until June 2020) Paid direct to
CIPD after joining programme

Mode of Attendance:
Induction T B C week commencing 14th September 2020 09:15-17:45; thereafter, part-time, one afternoon into
evening, weekly; Mondays 15:45-19:15, September 2020-July 2021; 90 hours attendance, 450 hours self-directed study
Entry Requirements:
Have a CIPD Foundation level, or general business qualification at L2, L3 or L4 with an interest in the HR area OR have a
number of years, practical HR experience. Where English is not your first language, a minimum grade of 6.0 overall and a
minimum grade of 5.5 in writing on the British Council International English Language Test (IELTS)
This is an academic programme at undergraduate level and therefore students joining with limited academic
qualification need to be prepared to develop academic skills, through engaging with the additional University
support services beyond the classroom.
Accredited Prior Learning (APL) is NOT available for a Certificate in Professional Studies (Regulation 2.1.7). This course is
seen as both an entry route into HR and as a progression route from CIPD Foundation onto the full CIPD Advanced Level.

• BM5905 Maximising Human Capital – e.g. what is an HR professional (CPD), what is resourcing and talent management, and how coaching
and mentoring approach help
• BM5906 Driving High Performance Organisations – e.g. evidence-based HR, high-performance working, and organisational development
• BM5907 Managing HR Functions – e.g. HRM in the business context, how HR department is organised and organisation design

Studying for Intermediate:


• Personal Skills Development and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) at start of the course and this is also supported by the
University’s Student Achievement department
• Functional and practitioner focus – group study with individual study in-class; some practical activities; Personal Tutor meetings available
• Assessment mainly through coursework – essays, reports, journals, briefing papers, presentations, practical activities. Three assessments
per module, the equivalent of 3000 words per module. Assessments may draw on workplace/industry experience; and there is a small
research project to complete; two assessed presentations but no examinations
• The University qualification is required to attain Associate Membership for the CIPD, so the first entry point to full professional membership
• The opportunity to continue to Post-graduate Diploma HRM (Level 7) and knowledge requirements for Chartered Member and Chartered
Fellow, the full professional membership grades

Induction T B C week commencing 14th September 2020 09:15-17:45; thereafter, part-time, one afternoon into evening,
weekly; Wednesday 14:15-18:15, September 2020 - July 2022; 600 hours per year minimum study expectation: attendance
plus self-study
Entry Requirements:
• An undergraduate degree with an interest in the area OR, a number of years HR experience and/or management
experience, OR you will hold professional qualifications L3-5, ranging from the CIPD Certificate / Foundation Programmes
such as the CPP & CTP, Intermediate L5 or Certificate in Management Studies (CMS). For non-native English speakers –
IELT score of 6.5, written 6.0
• Current students include those with a range of relevant work experience in Human Resources, Learning & Development
and Line Management, and those with qualifications ranging from the CIPD Foundation/Certificate programmes, such as
the CPP & CTP to those students holding a Level 6 under-graduate degree

• Induction T B C week commencing 14th September 2020 Full-time, day and evening attendance, with an
average of 24 hours self-study each week
• Circa 1800 study hours September to August; expectation of availability to study Monday to Friday most weeks;
one part-weekend in January for Research Methods. Can be considered to be 45 weeks of 40 hours study per
week
• Pure HR modules studied with part-time Post-graduate HRM students and HR Dissertation
• Other option modules available from MBA programme: 1 compulsory, 1 option (to replace Employment Law if
required)
Entry Requirements:
A good undergraduate degree with an interest in the area, OR practical work / organisational experience at degree
level, OR an appropriate pre-masters programme and have practical work / organisational experience at degree
level. In addition, international/non-native English speakers require an IELT score of 6.5, written 6.0.

Teaching and Learning Strategy
Expert tutors from a breadth of backgrounds, predominantly academics supported by practitioners
We aim to use appropriate and innovative approaches to learning, teaching and assessment, including:
• Dedicated workshops with research application in mind
• Group working to embed the learning
• Groups sizes vary dependent on time of year, usually range from 10-30 students
• Online support materials / lecture notes / etc.
• You will also be required to engage with our other academic services such as Student
Achievement to support the development of your study and research skills throughout the
programme
• Finally, you will also be allocated an individual Advisor to help you with your dissertation

Important notes for Master’s Stage students
1. Allocated Advisor after submission of initial topic form: guidance throughout the process of developing YOUR Research Proposal,
planning and conducting the research, and writing your Dissertation
2. Student responsibility to edit various drafts and keep track of submission deadlines 
3. Advisor is generally available between Monday and Friday 09:00 – 17:00
4. Advisor meetings take place at Oxstalls Campus, Gloucester or as agreed
5. At the initial meeting with your Advisor, it would be useful to agree how the process of supervision will operate over the study period
6. Allocated Advisor hours include: review of draft work, all other contact, e-mail, face to face and is presumed to be spread across the
duration of your studies
7. The Advisor is there to provide critical advice on your work as it develops. This will include offering one set of written comments as
feedback on each draft chapter submitted
8. A working week is allowed for review by your Advisor for each individual draft chapter submitted
9. Student is expected to take the lead in contacting Advisor to arrange meetings and to keep notes of actions arising from these
meetings using the Student Meeting Form
10. Your Advisor supervision will cease one month before submission date

Assessment Strategy for Master’s Stage
The Master’s Stage award comprises of 3 assessments. All dates of submission are confirmed at the onset
of the programme
• Assessment 001 - 1500 words, assessed research proposal, usually handed in around 6 weeks after you
start the programme
• Assessment 002 - 15000 words, assessed research dissertation; usually handed in around four weeks
before the end of your maximum period of study. Allows for marking time before any academic boards to
allow you to graduate
• Assessment 003 - 1500 words, assessed reflective paper; usually handed in around 4 weeks before the
end of your maximum period of study. Allows for marking time before any academic boards to allow you to
graduate
You are also required to submit a non-assessed research topic form on the Monday after your
research methods workshops. This will allow allocation of a suitable Advisor.

Teaching, Learning and Assessment


Teaching – tutors will have academic and practical experience to share with you; individual and group
working through a variety of methods, e.g. tutor input / activity / reflection on practice
Learning – Library [physical and on-line]; wider University support available, e.g. Student Achievement, but
study skills sessions are part of most of the programmes; reading lists will advise on core textbooks [cost
circa £40 per book and purchased independently]
Assessment – each module will have an assignment ‘clinic’; submission usually on-line [and this is where
submission date held / date for return]; some assessments may require group-work

15CATS per module equates to 150 hours, of which 30 hours are contact time – so, 120 hours of
guided, independent study
Independent study may be: reading a book, reading on-line, podcasts, reflection on a work meeting,
discussion with colleagues at work, and so forth – any activity that helps you learn and develop
