ACCURACY
• Definition of error
The result of every measurement by any measuring
instrument contains some uncertainty. This is called as
error.
RANGE AND ORDER OF TIME INTERVALS
• Systematic errors – These are the errors that tend to be in one direction, either positive or
negitive. Some sources of systematic errors are:
• Instrumental error
• Imperfection in experimental technique
• Personal error
• Random error – These are the errors which occur irregularly and hence are random with
respect to size and sign.
• Least count error – It is the error associated with the resolution of the instrument.
ERRORS USED IN NUMERICALS
1. Absolute error – The magnitude of the difference between the individual measurement
and the true value of the quantity is called the absolute error of the measurement.
2. Relative error – It is the ratio of the mean absolute error to the mean value of the
quantity measured.
3. Percentage error – When the relative error is expressed in percent , it is called as
percentage error.
