Jesus
Luke 9:57-62
Luke 9:57-62
57 As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you
wherever you go.”
58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but
the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
59 To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury
my father.”
60 And Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for
you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”
61 Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to
those at my home.”
62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is
fit for the kingdom of God.”

”knowing that you were ransomed from the futile
ways inherited from your forefathers, not with
perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the
precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without
blemish or spot. He was foreknown before the
foundation of the world but was made manifest in the
last times for your sake, who through him are
believers in God, who raised him from the dead and
gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
John 6:68-69

to whom shall we go? You have the
words of eternal life, and we have
believed, and have come to know,

The Cost of Following Jesus

If we are willing to
forsake Christ to gain
anything, we will end
up losing everything.
The Cost of Following Jesus
O God, I have tasted Thy goodness, and it has both satisfied me and
made me thirsty for more. I am painfully conscious of my need of
further grace. I am ashamed of my lack of desire. O God, the Triune
God, I want to want Thee; I long to be filled with longing; I thirst to
be made more thirsty still. Show me Thy glory, I pray Thee, that so I
may know Thee indeed. Begin in mercy a new work of love within
me. Say to my soul, `Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.'
Then give me grace to rise and follow Thee up from this misty
lowland where I have wandered so long. In Jesus' name, Amen.

The Cost of Following Jesus

Philippians 3:7-11
But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.
Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth
of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the
loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain
Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own
that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in
Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—that I
may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his
sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means
possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
