AM Receivers

The document discusses different types of radio receivers and mixers. It describes the functions of receivers which include selecting the desired signal, amplification, demodulation to obtain the original signal, and applying the amplified demodulated signal to a loudspeaker. It discusses two main receiver types - the tuned radio frequency receiver and the superheterodyne receiver. The superheterodyne receiver works by mixing the incoming radio frequency signal with a locally generated oscillator signal to produce an intermediate frequency signal that can be easily filtered and amplified.

Functions of Receivers

• Select The desired signal from all the other unwanted signals.
• Amplify the desired signal.
• Demodulate (process opposite to modulation) the amplified signal
• After demodulation, the original modulating signal is obtained
which must be amplified.
• Apply the amplified demodulated signal to the loudspeaker.
Receiver Types
• The tuned radio frequency (TRF) receiver.
• The superheterodyne receiver.
