ED TUTORIAL Lecture 1

Engineering Dynamics tutorial covers the following topics: (1) Converting a car's weight between pounds, slugs, and kilograms. (2) Calculating the distance from the center of the Earth where the gravitational force between two contacting iron spheres equals the force of gravity on one sphere. (3) Evaluating the position, velocity, and acceleration of a particle given its velocity equation as a function of time, when time is 3 seconds.

TUTORIAL (SECTION B)

LECTURE 1

Ayaz Mahmood Khan

Problem 1/1
 For the 3600-lb car, determine
(a) Its mass in slugs

(b) Its weight in Newtons

(c) Its Mass in Kilograms

Problem 1/5
 Consider 2 iron spheres, each of 100mm diameter
which are just touching. At what distance r from
the center of the earth will the force of mutual
attraction between the contacting spheres be equal
to the force exerted by the earth on the of the
spheres
PRACTICE PROBLEMS (2/3)
 The velocity of a particle which moves along the s-
axis is given by v= 2- 4t + 5t3/2, where t is in
seconds and velocity in meters per second.
Evaluate the position s, velocity v and acceleration
a when t=3s.The particle is at the position so=3m
when t=0
