CH:3 LINEAR
EQUATIONS IN TWO
VARIABLES
1.If the system of equations 4x +3y =3 and (2k-1) x + (k-1) y = 2k +1 is inconsistent ,
find the value of k.
2.If x +1 is a factor of 2x3 + ax2+2bx +1 , then find the values of a and b given that
2a -3b = 1.
3.Solve for u and v : 2(3u – v) = 5uv and 2(u + 3v) = 5uv
4.Solve : ax +by = a – b and bx – ay = a + b
5.Draw the graph of 2x + y = 6 and 2x –y +2 = 0. Shade the region bounded
by these line segments and x-axis. Find the area of the shaded region.
6.A two digit number is obtained either by multiplying the sum of the digits
by 8 and then subtracting 5 or multiplying the difference of the digits by 16
and then adding 3.Find the number.
7.The cost of 4 pens and 4 pencil boxes is Rs 100.Three times the cost of a
pen is Rs 15 more than the cost of a pencil. Find the cost of a pen and a
pencil.
8.Two numbers are in the ratio 5:6.If 8 is subtracted from each of the
numbers , the ration becomes 4:5 , find the numbers.
9.Solve for x and y :
43x + 67y = 24 and 67x + 43 y = 24.
