COMPANY HISTORY
Began with Madurai’s first bus service and sons limited,in
1911
Owner Thirukkurungudi Sundaram Iyengar
In 1955,sons took over the company ahead.
Sundaram Clayton was founded in 1962 in collaboration with
Clayton Dewandre Holdings, United Kingdom
The company set up a plant at hosur in 1978.
In 1980, TVS 50, India's first two-seater moped launched
EXTENDED HISTORY
- The company was incorporated as Indian Motorcycle Pvt. Ltd. on 15th
July 1984.
Its name was changed to Indo Suzuki Motorcycles Pvt. Ltd.
converted into a public limited company on 12th January, 1984
The company entered into a technical know-how and assistance
agreement with Suzuki Motor Co. Ltd., of Japan on 22nd September 1984
In 1986 the name of the company was changed from Indo Suzuki Motorcycles
Ltd.
to TVS Suzuki Ltd with effect from 18th August.
TVS Suzuki is a joint venture between Saundaram Clayton Ltd. of the
TVS group and Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan.
CONTINUED:
In 1993 the Company launched a new model of moped viz. `TVS Scooty‘’.
In 1995 the company thought of launching one new plant
In 1997 TVS-Suzuki (TSL) - a joint venture between the TVS group and Suzuki
Motor Corporation, Japan - was the first company to launch a 100-cc
motorcycle in the Indian market.
In 1997 the company proposes to introduce kick start facility.
In 1999 Suzuki has indicated to the TVS group that if it did not agree to the
Japanese company''s acquiring a majority stake, it should allow Suzuki
to set up a 100 per cent subsidiary.
In 2001 the TVS group and Suzuki Motor Corporation September 27 parted ways
from their 15-year-old joint venture.
Then it is known as TVS motor company.

TVS group was established in 1911 by Shri T V Sundaram Iyenger. As one if india’s largest

out of TVS 50. India’s first two seater moped that ushered in an era of affordable
personal transportation. For the indian automobile sector, it was a break through to be

the hallmark of Japanese quality “The Deming Prize For Total Quality Management”.
It has the unique distinction of having sold nearly 4million the highest ever in India. It
exports its range of products to 17 countries worldwide. Its unrelenting pursuit of
customer satisfaction in all aspects if manufacturing of 2 wheelers is reflected in over
6million satisfied owners of mopeds, motorcycles and scooters. Its highly motivated
employees manufacture high quality vehicles from two manufacturing plants in Hosur
and Mysore.
