    Simple Sentences
    -Comprised of the simplest form of SVO/I
    -Subject + Verb + Object/Idea
    Eg:
    1. I am a teacher.
    2. She took a cab to the airport.
    3. We are having pizza for dinner tonight.

    Simple sentence is also called as independent


    clause.

    Compound Sentences
    Compound sentences have two or more independent clauses.

    I am a teacher. My wife is a lawyer.


    I am a teacher and my wife is a lawyer.

    She tried to lift the suitcase. The suitcase was too heavy.
    She tried to lift the suitcase, but it was too heavy.

    Compound sentences are combined using coordinating


    conjunctions. (and, but, or, so)

    Common Mistakes
    ✖ Two subjects joined by a Coordinating Conjunction is
    NOT a Compound Sentence.
    ○ Joe and Mary waited for the train.
    ✖ Two verbs joined by a Coordinating conjunction is
    NOT a Compound Sentence
    ○ Joe waited and stood on the platform.
    ✖ Two subjects and two verbs joined by a Coordinating
    Conjunction is NOT a compound sentence
    ○ Joe and Mary waited and stood on the platform.
