Background

Security concerns raised by the Hon’ble Supreme Court about unauthorized leakage
of Aadhaar data by private operators

Meeting held in PMO in Sept-2017 towards setting up Aadhaar centres in Banks and
Post Offices by phasing out private agencies

Mandate given to DoP to open Aadhaar Enrolment centers in Post Offices pan India
for both enrolment and updation

Government provided fund of Rs. 200 crore in Oct-17 for procurement of Aadhaar
Enrolment kits

First Aadhaar enrolment cum updation centre opened in June 2017 at Lucknow
GPO

DoP procured 13,352 Aadhaar Enrolment kits & made 13,352 Aadhaar Centres
operational by Sept 2018
Objectives

Fulfilling the vision of the Government to


provide Citizen Centric services in the
vicinity of the citizens by providing
enrolment/mandatory biometric updation
services and updating demographic/biometric
Aadhaar data in case of any change/mis-
match.

Revenue generation for the Department through


large scale enrolment/updation services through
Post Office Aadhaar Centres.

Way forward for enhancement of Enrolment/Updation transactions

 100% activation of all Aadhaar Centres.

Deployment of trained GDS/MTS in Aadhaar Centres by organizing regular training


courses (including refresher courses) in co-ordination with RO UIDAI.

 Consolidation of Aadhaar Centres from smaller post offices to the bigger POs.

 Extension of Aadhaar Centres working hours and keeping the Centres functional on
weekends/holidays as per convenience of the public.

 Giving wider publicity for creating awareness through display of permanent


signboard at Post Offices where Aadhaar centres are located.

 Organizing special camps in schools/colleges/educational institutions/Aanganwadis


etc.

 Reviewing & monitoring the performance of every Aadhaar Centre for focusing on
the non-performing centres.

Post Office Passport Sewa Kendra

Journey of Post Office Passport Seva Kendras
 Before the project: Only 77 Passport Seva Kendras (managed by the MEA)
concentrated mainly in the major cities causing inconvenience in terms of time,
efforts and expenses to citizens in far flung areas.

 Department of Posts (DoP) and Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) mutually agreed
for leveraging the vast network of Post Office as Passport Seva Kendras in order to
provide passport services by setting up 491 POPSKs.

 The pilot project for this joint venture commenced on 25th January, 2017 at
Metagali Post Office Mysuru, Karnataka and at Dahod Head Post Office, Gujarat.

 After implementation of project:. 424 POPSKs have been made operational with a
comprehensive coverage in 25 States/7 UTs which includes 65 of the aspirational
districts.

 Around 42 lakh applications have been processed in Post Office Passport Seva
Kendras till 31.12.2019 with revenue accrual of more than Rs. 138 crores.

Journey of Gangajal sale/distribution through Post Offices

 10.07.2016: Commencement of sale/distribution of Gangajal sourced from


Rishikesh & Gangotri through Post Offices

 01.01.2019: Distribution/sale of 250ml Gangajal bottle sourced only from Gangotri


started through Post Offices.

 Initially sale/distribution of Gangajal bottles was started through HO’s , GPO’s and
online through e-Post office Portal

 The Sale/Distribution of Gangajal bottles extended to 3233 Post Offices in addition


to existing 838 HO’s/GPO’s. Now the Sale/Distribution of Gangajal Bottles is being
done through 4071 Post Offices across the country

 The Gangajal bottles are also made available through online portals i.e. e-
Commerce Portal and e-Post office

 October 2019- the distribution/sale of Gangajal Bottles with new label/wrapper

Way Forward

 All Circles to ensure availability of Gangajal in all identified Post Offices.


Adequate stock of Gangajal may be maintained by making regular requisition
with the Nodal Circle i.e. Uttarakhand Circle.

 Uttrakhand Circle to ensure adequate stock of Gangajal and ensure adequate


supply to all Circles.

 All Circles to ensure publicity/promotion of Gangajal

 Installation of temporary stalls at premises of Post Offices on


Mahashivratri/Srawan Maas and such other religious
festivals/Occasions and Special Camps/Melas/drives at Panchayat level
during SB/Bima Mela/Bachat Gram Mela in Post Offices across the
Circle.
