4. Power supply - Component that
provides power to every piece of hardware
within the Computer case. It also converts
the voltage from a wall outlet to a
level a computer can use safely.
5. Chassis - The computer’s case that
houses the system’s internal
components. Typically, these are
constructed in two form factors
(shapes): Tower model (approximately 2
ft. long by 10 in. wide, by 2 ft. high) and
Desktop model (approximately 2 ft. by 2
ft. wide by 7 in. high).

WHY IT'S IMPORTANT TO HANDLE WITH CARE
A hard disk drive is one of the most important
components of any computer system.

Guidelines for Drive Handling
Always….
• Handle drives one at a time.
• Handle drives slowly and carefully.
• Handle drives only by their sides.
• Provide padding and ESD protection to all drive
work surfaces and packaging.
• Keep work areas clear of metal contact.

Guidelines for Drive Handling…Continuation
Always….
• Handle rejected drives as carefully as you would good,
new drives
• Prevent accidents by keeping drives away from edges of
tables and carts.
• Use proper tooling.
• Wait at least 30 seconds after the drive is powered down
before moving it.
• Use proper ESD protective equipment.

Guidelines for Drive Handling… Continuation
Never….
• Drop drives from any height.
• Allow drives to impact hard surfaces.
• Allow a drive to come in contact with another drive.
• Stack drives, even in ESD bags.
• Allow contact with circuit board—including tools,
hands, fingers, mounting brackets, etc.

Guidelines for Drive Handling…Continuation
Never….
• Stand drives on their end or side—they may fall.
• Force-fit drives into place.
• Seat drives carelessly or roughly.
• Send mishandled drives down the line.
• Move drives during operation.
